No, he won't. Tampa also doesn't have to move him right now, so if the fit doesn't work for JBB and Tampa, he'll stay for.another year. He has shown no signs of serious decline, still is a #2 or #3 on many teams, and could even be argued as a #1 on some. Tampa isn't being put in a position where if they don't move him now, they have no avenue to being cap compliant. JBB is a good GM and won't be attaching assets to move someone with positive value like McD. You don't know Yampa's cap situation very well if you think otherwise.

Except for the verified reports that Tampa has asked McD about him moving and waiving his trade protection. TB will lose one of Palat or Paul, or both.
You are correct, McD is easily a top 3 on most teams at this moment. Problem is, his style of play tends to lend itself to a lack of late career durability and sharp declines as he ages. Lidstrom aged like a fine wine, but he is the exception to the rule. Almost 7 million against the cap for 3 (?) More years, at this age, is not favorable. McD has already started the decline, as 2 years ago, I would have slotted him 1 or 2 on about 25 teams in the league. That is not at all saying he is bad, just that the cap hit can become an albatross REALLY quick. I'd liken McD to Ktonwall, who went from debatable 1D on most teams to ok bottom 2 within 2 seasons.
It's quite possible that a team does think of this as an opportunity to add a good player just depends if he's willing to go to a team that can risk it. Looking at Detroit's situation they might be able to squeeze him in at little risk, because their prospects would need to be signed in the 3rd (Seider and Raymond) or 4th year of his contract, or after it expires. It depends heavily their plans for their players who are 25-27 (Larkin, Bertuzzi, Vrana, and Suter), if they plan to move at least two, they can afford McDonagh and to add a 5m starter, as they are 14m under the cap floor as of now, leaving 20m for Raymond and Seider.
They have 7 guys they can extend so they will have a really good idea on what moves would need to be made to add him in without risking cap problems.
JBB doesn't really have many assets left to attach anyways if anything he takes a combination of mid to late picks or a prospect like Juolevi and perhaps Zadina.
Buffalo is probably in a similar situation and they might want him to play with Power as they were after a top 4 D-man to play with him.
