Canes for the Cup Gaudreau edition

Created by: GoCanes
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 30, 2022
Published: Jun. 30, 2022
Team: 2022-23 Carolina Hurricanes
Team Explanation
Generally, the Canes run it back and hope their incredible regular season goaltending stays health and/or Koochie is ready for the jump.

Massive offer for Gaudreau, but he is elite and the Canes need goal scoring. And this signing does fit in well for a 2 year cup window before many UFA decisions are required. It also gives them flexibility to add next year with both GK's and Staal coming off the books ($12.5 mil and Koochie will certainly be a cheap #2 GK next year)

This allows us to keep all assets for future needs and see if Necas or KK can fill the 2C role. Drury comes in at 4C.

The only concern is the 3rd pairing, but I think a rotation of Smith (veteran), LaJoie, Keane and Chatfield will be solid enough with their 14-16 mins a night.

“Maybe” from the Sabres

I mean, I get that Bear may want more than his QO which may lessen his value. But people forget that a 3rd round pick in hockey is not much to pay. He is a top 6 NHL defender and maybe top 4 and young with potential. 12% of 3rd round picks play in the league.

Sabres accept!! RD is woefully thin in the Sabres organization. Can't hurt to see what the kids got.

I think a decent amount of Sabres fans would go for it

But in real life, it doesn’t matter of a 3rd isn’t a lot to ask for if Sabres management doesn’t like him

He isn’t really the type of defenseman i think we’re looking for,
but a 3rd for him is reasonable if we do like him

So again, i think it’s a “maybe”

you can't put teravainen on the third line, move kk there and put Necas at center or something
