Makes no sense for Philly, they already have Ellis and Risto for RD.

Ellis problems have been diagnosed, treated non surgically, expected to be back by November at latest. Dumba makes no sense for PHI

Makes a lot of sense actually. Risto clearly hasn't produced as a top 4 guy, and Ellis is not going to be ready for the season. May not even play again. This would actually make a lot of sense for Philly.

I feel like you're the only one saying this with certainty, because everything i have heard from Chuck and the staff is that there are still a lot of obstacles and unknowns when it comes to Ellis. There has been no time table and no one has ever said he will be back by November the latest. If they have, please send your sources.

partially posted on https://flyersnittygritty.com/flyers-general-manager-chuck-fletcher-gave-an-update-on-ryan-ellis-and-cleared-the-air-on-joel-farabee/

which is more about diagnosis, progress, unclears on how long, both both ellis and fletcher say to be ready by camp WAS the goal depending on further progress

the timetable was less clear, but came from reputable source, cant remember, but gastro doctor etc... were in there, talking about length of rehab

"Well, he’s continuing to progress, certainly improved since the end of this season,” Chuck Fletcher said. “Certainly, further along now compared to a month or two months ago. Saying that, the bulk of his rehab is still ahead of him. He’s starting to intensify his off-ice workouts. Its’s going well, but there is still several steps to go before he gets on the ice. It’s still difficult, if not impossible, to predict where he’s going to be at in three months. The last month has been encouraging, but there is still more work to do"

He continued....

"Finally, Fletcher cleared the air on Ellis’s injury. However, he has still not progressed enough to skate. Another problem that was shared with the media yesterday is that Fletcher could not guarantee Ellis to be ready for training camp. This is massive if you’re the General Manager, do you prepare for life without him this season or do you prepare to have him back at some point."

Of course the goal to return by camp is there, but that means nothing. Additionally, he hasn't even started skating yet and were a couple months away from camp. They have no clue on when or even if he is going to play again. It just doesn't give any credence to say that he will be back by Thanksgiving, that's just a forecast and one that is looking bleaker by the day. With Farabee we got a timetable, with Ellis he hasn't played a game since 2021 and we still don't know. That makes it much scarier and more unknown as to if he's even gonna play again.

This all makes acquiring Dumba a lot more sensible…even if only as a rental.

I would absolutely agree. And if he fits in, what's to stop us from signing him to an extension? He's only going to be 28 years old and if he plays with a solid partner that he doesn't have to carry like Sanheim or even what York translates to be, why not? Best case scenario is you add to the right side of your defense by having Dumba, Ellis, and Risto, all playing and all healthy. Would be huge to revamp their defense like this all in one offseason. Add this to Provy, Sanheim, and York, and you have a pretty soliid 1-6 in my eyes.
