McDonagh is too much of a gamble due to his age and cost to acquire. There are better and cheaper options available.

Suter performed better than Karlsson this year and Hague isn't better than players like Pettersson or Schmidt. I wouldn't mind taking on Karlsson if we also kept Suter and let the two of them duke it out for the 2C spot but swapping one for the other doesn't make sense.

This summer has an unusually high number of good LD available really cheap due to tems being in cap trouble, take advantage of that instead of paying for premium players that won't be here when we're ready to compete.

Ill buy hague at fair market price but no way do I want karlsson. If McD came retained like that then sure I'd think about it.

Suter isnt really going FOR Karlsson, he was more of a payment for Hague... I also dont see Detroit resigning Suter with Rasmussen & Veleno already looking legit.
As it is Sundqvist & the fact that i grabbed Johansson as a UFA are both just stopgaps for players that are up and coming in the system.
I do think Detroit should aim to make the playoffs next season, I think Yman should grab some high end UFAs, like Palat & Campbell this off season and declare the rebuild over!

Who are you thinking they should traget on LD?? I did hear that Vegas was shopping Hague.

Im not a big Schmidt fan, i think he is overpaid for what he does.
Pettersson would be a decent get, what do u think the Pens would want for him??

There are rumours out of PIT that they may have to pay to dump him. I'd gladly give them a 3rd for him since he's exactly the right player to pair with Hronek.

I like Schmidt for the following reasons:
1. If we get Pettersson then we're covered for PK duty but we still need someone to run our second PP and Schmidt is very good with that.
2. Schmidt also plays both sides and that could come in handy if there's an injury to either Seider or Hronek. We don't have anybody other than Oesterle or Newpower otherwise and while they may be good enough to cover for Lindström I don't want them anywhere near the top two pairs.

Both Pettersson and Schmidt are good enough and young enough to be easily traded when our kids mature and they're no longer needed. In fact, with the cap rising and our ability to retain salary we should be able to get more than what we paid for them.

Hague is more expensive than either of Pettersson or Schmidt and he won't be better than any of our kids so his age isn't an advantage.

Wings decline both. McDonagh and Karlsson would both need retention for Detroit to be interested
