just doesn't make since for either team. And there's no way njd retains half hischier's salary.

VAN easily declines. NJD needs more than that. Not to mention PK is UFA.

Let's trade our first overall pick, team captain, and half his salary retained, for another team's seventh overall pick, leaving us without a 2c and an abundance on left side defense!

Hard no from both. The pieces that were included were two untouchables in Hughes and Hischier, a UFA in Subban, and a so-so prospect in Kuokannen. Even if Subban had a super value extension and NJ had a similar enough player to Hischier to justify moving in from him, Quinn is worth a lot more to Van, and other markets for that matter, than this deal suggests

How about the Canucks trade 12th overall pick Tyler Myers with salary retained for 162nd overall pick Jesper Bratt and 60th overall pick Damon Severson?

How about some reductio ad absurdum to go with your fries and coke, sir?

Just showing that draft position doesn’t mean a player has higher trade value. Hischier may have gone 1st, but Hughes easily has more trade value than him
