If this team didn’t get to at least the second round I’d be pretty pissed. The talent is definitely there both high end and quality depth.

Ridiculous overpay. Trading for Debrincat will always be a bad idea for the Devils, there is no deal that works for both sides

If the 2OV is included maybe they could get him for 3 pieces, 2OV+a good prospect+2023 1st (NJ)

NJ needs a goal scorer and getting a top 10 goal scorer and the chance to lock him now is a good trade off. They can't keep all their players anyways. It's just important that they don't move someone with a skill set that they can't easily obtain.

There's no need to spend so much on Debrincat. The Devils are better off with Gaudreau or without going after a big name

I'm shocked the Hawks won't agree to the 2022 1st + Holtz or Mercer (Devils would be better keeping Mercer IMO). That said, I'm betting the latest rumors were the Devils offering the 2022 and 2023 1st plus Ty Smith or Zacha and Hawks declining.

Gaudreau is going to cost more, he's older, and he scores less goals. NJ doesn't need another playmaker. Only Ovechkin, Matthews, Draisaitl, McDavid, Pastrnak, Connor, and MacKinnon have more goals.

Only better option that might be available is Pastrnak. He might be wanting something similar to Gaudreau but he is better than DeBrincat and might even require the same pieces to acquire.

Like DeBrincat, Pastrnak is up for extension so maybe they can try to see which they can sign for cheapest since they need money if they are going to have a top 6 of elite players.

Gaudreau is 25th in goals and Forsberg is 30th in the last 6 years.

For NJ it's better to keep Mercer and Holtz imo.

I was just thinking that NJ would do Zacha+2022+2023 but that CHI would decline.

Maybe they can add a sweetener that would make the Hawks accept but isn't an A-asset. If not they should turn their attention elsewhere.

I think the rumors were referring to CBJ offering 6th+12th+B-prospect though

I doubt Fitzy is targeting DeBrincat. Doesn’t fit his wish list. If he did, #2 overall would be it. No Mercer, No Holtz, no 2023 1st. Maybe a roster player like Mango or Tatar and/or a later pick.

Also, Gaudreau is asking for around $9m.

Rumors are, the Devils and Hawks were indeed discussing and I'm betting the rumor is about the Devils offering the #2, 2023 1st and Zacha where the Hawks declined. Also, no chance...zero...the Hawks would give up Cat (a 24 year old proven NHL elite talent) for the #2OA (totally unproven NHL player even)....you would never see a trade like that in NHL.

You would never see a trade like that in NHL because the team holding the #2 pick never moves it.

Wingers are traded all the time. Even star ones. Top-2 picks have never been moved for a player in cap era. These are franchise-changing picks, ones that teams would center their rebuild around.

If any offer were made, it would be 2023 protected 1st, this years 2nd and a couple of prospects. If the #2 overall was offered, DeBrincat would be a Devil right now.

Actually because no GM in their right mind would trade the #2OA (especially in this draft) for 24 year old Elite scoring winger...it's crazy.

Cat is a elite franchise level young player and the #2OA is only a chance at getting that.

LOL, not a chance the Hawks trade Cat for Cooley or Wright....zero chance. These guys aren't Kane or McDavid or Matthews predraft

If they were Kane, McDavid or Matthews, do you think we would even be having this discussion? There is no reason to think the #2 pick is in play at all. It’s all been speculation at this point.

Nothing about Debrincat-to-NJD-for-[yikes] makes sense. Chicago will want the assets to focus their rebuild around, which NJD is not giving up. He does not fit our on-ice needs at all. And there are tons of options for NJD. Lastly, if the Devils did make a big splash trade, it would more likely happen after the 2022 draft (and after 2022 free agency opens up).

Totally agree with you about if the Devils do trade it its going to be when the lights are on them. Big if.
