People have been predicting his breakout year for like 3 years in a row.

What's has been holding him back?

He wasn't great in his own end in the 9 game stint he had this past season with the Travis Green Canucks. He then tore it up in the AHL.

Lol there was the covid year and then a season in the A. He'll be just fine. Skates better than most NHLers and has a rocket of a shot.

If he makes the NHL this year, then this is an amazing deal.

If he stays in the AHL this year, then this is still an okay deal.

Call it a win for the Canucks.

If he was a right shot or 3 inches taller...he probably wouldve spent the year in Van...but the extra icetime in Abby shouldve helped him. still an RFA at the expiration of the deal, so they should know by then if they have a top4 dman, or just a top pair AHL player who can fill in occassionaly.
