The Blues are almost certainly not taking McD's contract as is, and frankly you're asking a bit much anyway.

Nah, probably asking a little light, but oh well. Ppl seem to think Tampa is giving McD away, but that's not going to happen. Maybe St. Louis doesn't work as a fit, but the value is about right. Tampa doesn't have to move him, so if Brisebois can't work a solid return, so be it. Tampa will just move Killorn instead.

That’s a little much MCD, you have to retain 50% first and still that’s a lot to give up

Yeah, Tampa isn't retaining anything, and if they seriously considered any retention, it would cost more than a 1 year rental Barbashev and Mikkola.

Blues don’t consider it then

Your opinion, others elsewhere have thought the deal was solid.

I do too if 50% is retained as we can’t afford him otherwise and long term it’ll be rough

You can move a worse dman in Scandella elsewhere to create space. Doubtful it's rough for any but the last year of McD's contract. Tampa isn't potentially shopping him because he has declined, but because he still has good value and unfortunately, Tampa needs to allocate it to the F group atm. No team is retaining 3.4 million for 4 years.

Yep, Barbashev has had 1 good year, and Mikkola is a 3rd pairing, 5/6 type. Tampa isn't being forced to move McD, so yeah, Tampa won't be taking less. Blues don't want him that's fine, but Tampa won't be giving him away or sweetening a deal to move him. Comical for ppl to think otherwise.

Nobody is trying to take him for nothing. The issue here is you're asking too much. Sheesh, imagine thinking Barbashev has only had one good year...

Not asking too much, a middle 6 depth/role player winger and 3rd pairing dman is hardly too much. Barbashev has been solid, but nothing amazing. In terms of offense, he's had one season where he's topped a 30 point pace, this last one. He's a decent fit for Tampa at LW perhaps, but he's far from the only option Tampa can look at.

I mean the TBL are in a tough spot. Full NTC for McD and already $5.13M over the cap. Teams dont typically line up for years 34-38 and a $6.75 cap hit.
It wouldn't surprise me at all if he was waived and the TBL pull the same stuff on him as they did with TJ.

Tampa is not 5.13 over the cap, they currently have approximately 1.75 in cap space. McD will be 36 in the last year of his contract. Tampa also does not have to move him, as there are other avenues to making the cap work with who they want for next year. If McD stays one more year, then Tampa can buy him out or waive him if necessary after next year.

You are right, I had Seabs NOT on LTIR AND also on McD's age. I was rounding and just saw he's 33 so I made an incorrect assumption without knowing his exact birthday that the next 4 years would be 34-38. JBB was able to get TJ and Gourde out...so...you're probably right on that last point to. They'll figure it out. They can ice a team as is.

I agree that the full ntc complicates things some, but if it doesn't work out, Tampa probably either trades Killorn and keeps Palat or they could also let Palat walk, keep Killorn and maybe Rutta as well.

Yeah, oh well, it's fine. Obv not a monster return, but Tampa got what they most needed, which is cap space. McD maybe only was willing to waive to Nashville, who knows? It was still funny on here and elsewhere watching so many salivate over how much Tampa was going to have to add(or retain 50% for 4 years) to move him for nothing.
