If Sandin gets traded it would be to a place that he can have a better opportunity to play than in TOR this season, and probably on his strong side. He wasn't all that good on the right.

I think McDonagh and Holl might get added, depending on if they move some cap out front and what O'Reilly and Tarasenko extensions would look like. Think Buchnevich is going out from what I heard.

Not realistic at all with that TOR trade.

Makes way more sense for TOR to keep Sandin.

If Sandin is traded its either for a true starting goalie like Gibson or a young developing C like Dach.

That said I doubt hes going anywhere.

If they do trade him it would be for a young RD that is NHL ready with similar potential.

On that note, I have no clue who those guys are, what position they play, their potential, or their readiness so can;t comment anymore.

Mikkola has played roughly the same amount of games. More so in the playoffs due to this past season. Except he's 4 years older and has arbitration rights. Makes more sense to keep the younger player you've spent a few years developing. Plus he'll be cheaper.

Nah, they wouldn't trade him for C depth, especially since Dylan Strome might be available in free agency. There;s also cheap vet options and Blackwell for the 4th line, and AHL call ups who play C.

I think that 3rd pairing would get a good 16-17 minutes a night. I like Sandin’s game but we can scrap that deal if people don’t like it. Buchnevich isn’t going anywhere, we’d let ROR and/or Tarasenko walk before that happens.

I think the value is rather good for both sides but I don’t blame you if you don’t like it.

The value might be good but in terms of need/cap situation it wouldn't make sense for the Leafs. Mikkola is also a LD. Leafs need a RD if Holl is going out.

Pretty sure I saw, it being suggested that they take advantage of Buch's increased value but it could just be pure speculation.

Granted I don't know much about Mikkola, he very well could be the better defenseman at the moment. His age would have a factor in that.

At this point, I'd rather take my chances on the younger player. He can still have some sheltered minutes if need be, plenty of vet presence in the lineup.

Cap hit is too high, even at just 2.65m. Look up for my edit about Buch.

I won't say he's better, but I think he's more of what you guys need at the moment. Despite the age difference, he adds more grit to your bottom pairing.

They will likely add a 7th Dman for that at 1m or so. P Myers could be a candidate if he gets bought out.

Strome honestly is to streaky and to risky to peruse in FA. Could be another Nick Ritchie disaster. I wouldnt mind it but honestly I got a feeling what I said before could happen

Also Dach would be playing up at the 2c with JT which was why I suggested him as a trade option as according to CJ Toronto is exploring moving JT to wing next season and Dach is a young C on an ELC that could be perfect as JT can take faceoffs and just let him take on the other center responsibilities.

Dylan Strome (not Ryan) can at least keep up with the guys if he played in the top 6, if we can get him on a 2mx2. I'm guessing he would only be wlling to take a one year deal for 2 or 3m though, then he will probably get a huge payday elsewhere after a career year.

I think he would want a deal like what Pius Suter signed with the redwings

3.25mill x 2 years which isnt unreasonable just a gamble with a streaky guy like him but I wouldnt be to opposed

But if Toronto is planning to trade Sandin if a guy like Dach is available and Chicago is willing to do a 1 for 1 then I wouldnt be opposed to that either. As Dach to me would allow JT to shift to the LW spot and because Dach is more defensive minded could make for an intriguing 2nd line

Only problem is that Dach can't win faceoffs at all (worse than Marner).Well that and Davidson would want an overpay.

Marner and Nylander were both drafted as C's or wingers that also played C if I recall correctly. I think Nylander can take that role.

And thats where JT comes in as he can take the faceoff then move to the LW position during the play allowing Dach to carry on the other C responsibilities.

Spezza did that for us on the 4th line and Nylander did that for us in the bubble when JT got hurt

Giroux also did it a bunch when he was in Florida and Philly.

Miller does it for Pettersen too but Dach had 32% last year or something which is too bad imo. Strome had 52%, he improved on previous years. Dach is going to need to take faceoffs when Tavares gets kicked out or will have to have Nylander take them, then just doesn't really make sense.

Marner can take care of those defensive responsibilities if they want to convert him to center. He might not be able to adjust to the postioning though (like Nylander in the 2021 playoffs). Only worry I have is Matthews and Nylander taking off nights together again, but with Bunting maybe that doesn't happen.

I mean last year we when JT got kicked out and since Willy was on the 3rd line we often had Kerfoot taking them and he was a 40% guy. Wouldnt be overly concerned with that

As people forget Toronto has a faceoff specialist coach in Manny Malhotra who can work with Dach and get that FOW% up

Alnd having the 2nd best faceoff guy tutoring him doesnt hurt either does it

I got a feeling Dach going to Toronto would make his faceoff % go up as Malhotra made the Canucks FOW go from bottom of the League to top 10 and when he came over JT's went to 60% Matthews 55% and we Kampf and Spezza's increase to be over 50%

I feel like Malhotra will be busy with PP, but I guess it could possibly work. There's still the Kyle Davidson obstacle though.

Malhotra isnt incharge of the PP anymore its Spencer Carbery

Malhotra now helps out the teams centers with their faceoffs but occasionally helps out both the PP or PK coaches when need be

As for Davidson it seems he wants to blow up the hawks completely so probs would either looks for Picks for Dach or a guy like Sandin

He would take Sandin and ask for picks too. Basically, wants to get overpaid to increase his assets. I'm betting he's going for the fastest tear down rebuild done through drafting
