Not much of what I’m going to say here is going to sway devils fans into liking this trade… but here goes nothing

It’s reported that Chicago has turned down an offer of two firsts (with one being decently high) and a mid level prospect for DeBrincat (Friedman). The reported ask is 3-4 significant assets (The4thPeriod). Friedman also said that there is momentum building in a potential move trade and that teams are stepping up to the plate.

Minn won't trade for Dylan Strome since they might have to qualify him and probably can't afford the 4m or 3.7m QO if he decides to take it or whatever he might get in arbitration.

I bet MN would consider this if they moved Dumba out first. We have to clear cap space first.

It does not sound like it was the Devils offer that Chicago declined.

Friedman said it was a team with a “reasonably high 1st pick with another 1st round pick and a prospect, not a great prospect…but still a young player who can still play”. To me that sounded like Buffalo offering #16, #28, Mittelstadt (or something like that).

For the Devils, it would likely be #2 pick and not much else. Maybe a couple of lesser or longshot pieces. But they wouldn’t be adding Holtz, Mercer, 2023 1st on top of a top-2 pick.

Three seconds for Murphy? Even if the Zaitsev dump costs one of the 2nds im not sure that Murphy is worth another two of them...

A return like that is arguably worse/same as the Hagel return. I have a hard time believing that is a newsworthy offer. I was not saying I thought it was the devils offer that got rejected in this post, if I had to guess I would say the offer that was rejected would be OTT #7, OTT Conditional 1st in 2023, and a meh prospect (Boucher).

Do you really think they would reject a #7 pick, plus another 1st for DeBrincat? If good picks are what Chicago wants, they ought to know that is about as good as it would get.

I could see NYI at #13, a future 1st and Bellows as another possibility. Which itself wouldn't be a terrible offer.

I wouldn’t mind this at all. I think they could make it work without trading Dumba too. They could sign Strome to a 1 year deal because he doesn’t become an UFA until 2024, wait until the trade deadline and if Strome seems like a longterm fit, sell Dumba and retain half of his cap at the deadline to a contender, or if the Wild are a contender they can ride out the season, but risk Dumba walking. If Strome doesn’t seem like a fit, sell Strome next offseason and resign Dumba. If Strome absolutely goes off and is looking at a bigger contract, they get to decide if they want to sell Strome for a haul or sell Dumba/let Dumba walk and move someone else (maybe Greenway, and put Duhaime in his spot?).

I just see so many opportunities where the Wild could benefit from this kind of trade.

Agreed, this would benefit MN. I like the idea of involving Dumba In The deal. Clears more cap and finally gets Addison a spot to earn.

I think you really have to WOW Chicago for them to move him. The assumed package from OTT is a very solid offer, as is the NYI, but not enough to move the future 50 goal scorer for. Even though Chicago is listening to offers and is likely to move him we absolutely don’t HAVE to and that makes all of the difference from a leverage POV.

Only clock that is ticking is 2022 draft and Hawks have said they would like to get back into 1st round. If it were me, I’d make that a want, not a need and wait through the summer (and maybe into deadline). There are so many wingers available between trade market and free agency right now…they’d never fulfill their ask. It’s heavily a buyers market. But once the music stops there are going to be teams left out.
