Bad deals for Van with Boston and Pitt. Domi? Really? And for $5mm per year? Is this Benning?

Garland > Debrusk, why are the Canucks adding? I’d want a little more for Miller

I feel like the fiala trade kinda set the market for forwards like miller. Sure there are other factors like miller being a better player, having another year on his deal, and being able to play Center, but Fiala is also younger. I feel like Hextall is going to point to the fiala deal and say “I’ll give you a bit more than this” . Difference between 19th and 21st pick isn’t a ton, but the difference between Marino and Faber is, and Kapanen has some value

My one argument to that is Minnesota had absolutely no leverage and everyone knew they had to trade Fiala. The Canucks don’t necessarily have to trade Miller (although they should imo), which means they can hold onto him unless it’s a huge offer

Faber is a high level RHD prospect that projects as a top 4 D man. Marino is on a big money contract that is trying to find his game. Kapenen is a good asset but not worth his QO. Minny did really well with the Fiala trade

I kinda considered that under “miller….has another year on his deal”. But I think the great interest there was on fiala kinda outweighed the fact they had no leverage. It sounds like there were several teams interested with 3-4 presenting serious offers, this is leverage because Guerin can just say “okay Blake, you aren’t being serious, NJD gave me a serious offer I can go to them”

Faber ceiling is a defensive minded RHD, that is Marinos floor.

Kapanen had a bad year but he definitely has value due to his tools and previous success

Yeah that’s a fair point. I believe Dreger reported that the Canucks are likely to get an offer they can’t refuse, which imo would have to be an offer better than just Marino/1st/Kapanen (although I like Marino and a 1st as a base to an offer)

Not sure there is consensus on that. Faber does have more risk than Marino, but Faber will be team controlled for longer and on an ELC.

I just think with younger options available for trade, like say debrincat, fiala (obviously before he got traded), one of scheif/PLD, chychrun, the teams that have the best prospect pools that are looking to make a trade for a star are going to go for a younger option.

But Marino is a good player now. Unless you are going into a rebuild I think Marino is the more valuable player

Not worth his contract IMO. He could bounce back. Faber Is probably a year away

I love it when people can accept that others can have opposite opinions that are both valid. If either one of us were 100% right, we wouldn’t be having this debate. *shakes hand*

One thing about JR and Al is they are very fair to players. Benning didn't honor Miller's NTC. If either decide to move on, they will try everything to move him where he wants to be

Who know who's upside is better than either? Niemela but he's not a good fit because he is a Leafs prospect

High IQ and positionally sound, two way defenceman. Terrific at zone exits and zone entry. Already plays with men and dominates his league. Every team would love that. I think he's going to be a very good player. But I also think if he gets us a better chance at a cup now, I think is worth the cost.

If not, he could be a really good player for us soon
