Trades

DET
  1. McDonagh, Ryan
  2. Thompson, Jack
  3. 2024 4th round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
McDonagh needs to waive NTC to Detroit in a cap-dump move for the Lightning. Stevie Y convinces McDonagh to approve this and pair him with Mo Seider. It will cost Tampa one of their top prospects and mid-round pick for the Wings to take 4 years of a bad contract however.
TBL
  1. Oesterle, Jordan
Additional Details:
Essentially Detroit is taking on cap space, but also gaining a veteran LHD to groom the youngsters and provide leadership on and off the ice. With Staal aging out of being productive on the ice. Oesterle going back gives Tampa a depth LHD which they will need in Staal's absence.

Both trades are very lopsided towards Detroit

I love the Wings but I think Philly and Tampa decline those. It will take a couple mid round draft picks and a cheap player for Mcdonough. Provorov maybe add a 2nd but I don't think Philly is too keen on giving him up. Love and hope for similar improvement though!

Philly declines unless there is an extension in place for 4 years under 6 mill, even then not sure they take that… Konecny is pretty much the same guy as TB and while it fills the top 6 hole, it creates another hole on D and we really need a RHD who can eat top pair minutes.

Philly declines. Tampa accepts. I keep seeing that people thunk that McDonaugh will net assets back. That is not how it will work out. The downside for Detroit is if McD declines, that is almost 7M against the cap for 3 more years. He is useful today and might be for the rest of the contract, but he almost certainly will not be worth his cap hit in the last couple years. This trade essentially stamps the end end of rebuilding and shifts the focus to making moves to contend. Thus makes sense as there are plenty of promising prospects due to arrive in the next 2 years, and some of them will be casualties to acquire established pkayers.

In order for the PHI trade to happen, there needs to be A) an extension in place for Bert and B) NHL/Canada need to open up Covid restrictions which should happen hopefully over summer.

Maybe unpopular opinion, these circumstances are the only reasoning I would see that trade as lopsided. DET has a need for LHD, PHI forward core digressed and if they plan to move out some cap (like JVR) Bert easily slots into the top line LW slot.

Lol, Tampa hangs up the phone just after Yzerman finishes speaking. Well, depending on how fast JBB took to stop laughing. Thompson is going nowhere, and Tampa certainly isn't adding all that to McD just to get...Oesterle....I needed a good laugh today
