I don't hate the Habs trade but it is highly unlikely that we retain that much for that long

Habs aren’t going to retain 2.5M for a whopping 5 years. I’m very willing to trade Gallagher as a Habs fan, but not with retention.

The idea of trading Panarin for assets and cap space in the name of the future could make sense (despite the fact this is a massive undersell) . Following that up by trading an equal amount in future assets for Brendan Gallagher is insanity.

Trading Panarin does open up cap space even with the huge under sell but bring Gallagher retained is a really cheap 2nd line RW, you could sign someone from free agency but that would probably cost around $2 more million. Im just a big fan of Gallaghers play style and I think he would be helpful for the kids
