Description
Want to know what everyone's opinion on this is.

Do I think Kadri actually comes to Detroit? No.
Does it make sense for him to come to Detroit? Kinda

For Detroit
They need a 2nd line center and while a 1-2 punch of Larkin and Kadri may not be as incredible as other teams around the league it would be the best they've had since zetterberg retired. Not to mention Vrana, Kadri, Zadina/Fabbri would be a very underrated 2nd line (assuming Bertuzzi,Larkin, Raymond is 1st) they have the cap to sign Kadri without having any cap issues for the next few seasons (earliest likely when Seider and Raymond get extensions) also even after signing a FA goalie and getting a mid priced defenseman Detroit would still have plenty of room to take on a bad contract for an asset this year.

For Kadri
He's from London so Detroit is the close team to his hometown. On top of that Detroit has improved each of the past 2 seasons and have plenty of prospects who have yet to make an impact in the nhl, so Detroit has a good chance of being competitive within Kadri's contract. Notbto mention the cap Detroit has available he could secure the bag by signing with Detroit.

Also didn't mean anything about the Monahan trade just scrolled through teams and found the first player with 1 year left on there contract with production that didn't match there AAV

I'd steer clear of Campbell at 5 mil. I like Kadri but what's the plan with Larkin and little Bert then? If we got a first for taking Monahan for a year that'd be incredible. I think Calgary would have to be desperate to do that though.

Lol just edited my description to say Monahan was just the first guy I found with 1 year remaining and a AAV that doesn't match there production. Added the trade really just to show how much Detroit could take on and still be under the cap. Campbell was pretty much the same just showing that taking on a high priced goalie won't screw over Detroit in the short term

Kadri signs for more elsewhere. DET is not enticing enough to a player atm.

You're probably right but Detroit could offer more than what I put on here and you never know what players will take if it means the best for their families

Signing 31yr old Kadri to a 6 year deal is something Yzerman wouldn't do. I take out the 1st and 2nd out of the Monahan trade.

Some team is going to give him a max term contract. He’s been underpaid for most of his career and given he put up over a PPG while also still bringing the intangibles he’s known for, with DET needing to overpay further to entice him I fear we could be getting into the range where we have no business flirting with the idea.

Is it 2018-2019 again? This is an ACGM for 2022-2023. Monahan hasn’t produced as a 2C in years at this point. In what world do you give up a 2nd and 4th to a team in cap trouble for a player with 0.8 point shares in the last season, coming off a new injury and surgery, and paid north of $6 million without getting compensated in return? You know you would be pissed if your team made a similar trade to what you are proposing the other way. Or are you saving your first round pick and adding more to acquire JVR from the Flyers. Similar salary and much better year than Monahan at 2.9 point shares to 0.8.

Classic zero knowledge post. In 18/19 he produced as a top 10 center in the league. In 19/20 he produced as an average top 6 center. The last 2 years he's played the entirety of his season on a major injury.
