Dumba

Created by: MNBassman
Team: 2022-23 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 2, 2022
Published: Jul. 2, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Columbus needs a top 4 defenseman, the Wild could still use some cap relief going forward…
I had a tough time with this deal value-wise because I really don’t know what Ceulemans or Addison are worth in a trade…

I’d take out Addison completely tbh. I also feel like Minnesota would benefit from nhl ready players, more than a college kid who’s probably another year or two out. Maybe Dumba and 24 for Boqvist and 12? That being said Dumba would need a 5-6 year extension around 7.5-8 mil aav otherwise Columbus can’t afford to keep him and trey really aren’t in a spot to trade high end assets for a rental.

I think that would be too much for Dumba.

Honestly both. I think he's worth maybe 2 seconds and I think he'd sign in the $6-7M range for another team. I think he would take $5-6M with Wild.

After watching what Defenceman got in money last offseason I don’t think Dumba gets less then 7.5, when Jones, Werenski, Makar, Fox, Miro, Josi and McAvoy all got big money. Dumba isn’t that level (but he is better than Jones) so I’d say 7.5-8.0 is likely.

As for trade Boqvist wasn’t that good last season, and would say the difference between Boqvist and Dumba is same or close to the difference between 12 and 24.

I could also easily be overrating Dumba, but I’d say he’s a good 2-3 defenseman.

I've seen Addison in the top 50 for club associated prospects so he's a pretty valuable asset. I don't know that either him or Dumba are the kind of defensemen that Columbus needs going foward though. Dumba is a bit lacking at the defensive end and Addison is a very offensively gifted dman that likely wouldn't get the deployment he would need to take advantage of that skill set with Werenski and Boqvist in town.

Just value being considered though, I don't know that Minnesota would need to include a pick at all if they were trading Dumba and Addison for Ceulemans and 12th. Columbus probably would have to kick in a lower pick if anything.

Not directly apropos this trade, I think that with two mid-firsts this year and some cap pressure, Minnesota might be interested in moving up in the first. Not only Columbus' #12 but also the Las Vegas pick owned by Buffalo (#16) might be in play. #24 and a player for #16 is a very lively possibility.

I would argue that Dumba is better defensively than he is offensively! He’s a legit good defender now and has never had the scoring touch he had pre-shoulder injury. He and Brodin lead the Wild in minutes every game and are almost always the two on the ice at the end of a tight game. The idea Dumba is not a good defender is now longer the case.

Dumba will definitely not command over $7mil a season…and I’m a bigger fan of his than most.

Definitely interested in Dumba but I'm not sure how to balance this one.

My first concern is than nobody re-signs in CBJ. So why would Dumba instead of hitting the UFA market?

I have Dumba as worth 2 x (fringe Playoff) 2nds, Addison is worth a 2nd (his draft position), and VAN's 2nd. So 4 2nds for 12oa and a recent 1st. That just doesn't add up for me.

Even if you bumped up the 2nd to MN's 1st; that is basically Ceulemans draft spot from last year. So Addison + Dumba (3 x 2nds) for 12oa doesn't seems like a good trade for CBJ.

Putting rough pick numbers on it would be 12oa for 52oa (Addison draft spot) + 45oa +46oa (2 fringe Playoff 2nds).

12oa + Ceulemans for 19oa + 24oa + Addison might work better though. Having Dumba in the trade just makes it messy imo.

Addison is worth more than a 2nd. He's a very good RD prospect that is NHL ready.

He's done nothing to be worth more than a 2nd. He will be in the AHL again next year for MN too. The Wild GM/coaches don't trust his game in the NHL.

He is ready for a shot at the NHL, but he is small and does have a flawed overall game. Maybe he makes it and maybe he doesn't in the NHL? He is only a fringe player until he proves otherwise.
