the thing is any offer sheet made, dallas will match. although I'd love to get ottenger. if we are going for a high quality goalie that may be realistic-ish, I'd go all-in for helly from the jets

I highly doubt Oettinger would sign a 7x6. The way he played I expect him to bridge for 2-3 years and then cash in big on his next deal. That would maximize his earnings. His bridge could probably be 5-6 mil for 3 years. If he plays the way he did all year, then he's worth around 8 mil. Also Texas doesn't have state tax so there is another hit against the possibility of him signing in Edmonton

"Compensation is determined by the annual average (AAV) outlined in the offer made by submitting club.
The AAV for an offer sheet, which determines the compensation required, is derived by dividing the total contract value amount by the lesser of:
-number of years offered, or
-five (5) years"

So it's 42m / 5 = 8.4m when it comes to how the team is compensated.

Jake was absolutely amazing in the first round, but his sample size is very low. Remember Binnington? He came out of nowhere and lead St. Louis to the Cup and now look at him' woefully inconsistent. Oettinger could very well become a consistent star, but that seems like a high AAV and a high price for a young guy with a short track record.
