Gorton Draft Day Parody

Created by: oilersfan19
Team: 2022-23 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 2, 2022
Published: Jul. 2, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Fun thought that popped in my head (NOT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUS) but if there was a way MTL traded for the 2nd overall pick? How would that look.

With all that said in done, despite not having and 2nds, you do have 4 3rds & 4ths respectively which could be moved up with (which I won't be doing)
(^^ EDIT, I lied)

(ALSO) with signings FAs, I went under the assumption both Price & Bernier would play, if that is not the case then I would have resigned Montembeault.

Trades
1.
MTL
  1. 2022 1st round pick (NYI)
NYI
  1. Anderson, Josh
  2. 2022 1st round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
Allegedly NYI would be willing to send the 13th overall pick for Anderson, you gotta assume MTL would send CGYs pick back the other way
2.
MTL
  1. van Riemsdyk, James
  2. 2022 1st round pick (PHI)
PHI
  1. Allen, Jake ($1,437,500 retained)
  2. Farrell, Sean [Reserve List]
  3. 2022 1st round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
Would have to be dependant on a lot of things to make this trade make sense. First off, Carey Price can and will start this season. Secondly, Ivan Fedotov is forced to stay in Russia and will not come over to backup Hart. As well if PHI is looking to make a splash in FA (Gaudreau) and need some cap managed
3.
MTL
  1. 2022 2nd round pick (DET)
DET
  1. Petry, Jeff
Additional Details:
Feel this trade does make sense for DET to make. They traded a 2nd for Leddy this offseason, although they did flip him for more value, why would they not do the same for Michigan Native Jeff Petry? A solid veteran to help this team slowly contend
4.
MTL
  1. 2022 1st round pick (SEA)
  2. 2022 5th round pick (SEA)
SEA
  1. van Riemsdyk, James ($3,500,000 retained)
  2. 2022 1st round pick (PHI)
  3. 2022 2nd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
SEA may certainly not want to do this, but it's entirely possible. Seattle has mutual interest in JVR due to the Hakstol connection, and they get him at a discounted 50% retention price. Seattle moves down exactly 1 spot to get JVR as well. Also grabs a late 2nd for their troubles and sends their 5th
5.
MTL
  1. Bernier, Jonathan
  2. 2022 1st round pick (NJD)
  3. 2022 4th round pick (NJD)
NJD
  1. Mysak, Jan
  2. 2022 1st round pick (SEA)
  3. 2022 2nd round pick (DET)
  4. 2022 2nd round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Final trade here as MTL moves up 2 spots from #4 to #2. While this is a lot of value for 2 draft positions, it's entirely worth it. The Habs give up Jan Mysak in this deal as well as 2 2nds for the contract of Bernier & a late round pick (in addition to moving up). Bernier is a french Canadian, got a bad injury last year may never play again possibly, but sure he wouldn't mind playing behind Carey Price if need be. NJ essentially gets 3 potential high end prospects to move to 4 and select a defencemen they'd likely want instead of Slafkovsky.
6.
MTL
  1. Kaut, Martin
  2. 2022 3rd round pick (COL)
COL
  1. Drouin, Jonathan ($2,750,000 retained)
  2. 2022 6th round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
In addition, not related to the draft pick trade up circus but MTL moves on from Drouin, going to COL for a Burakovsky replacement
7.
MTL
  1. 2022 2nd round pick (VGK)
VGK
  1. Clague, Kale [RFA Rights]
  2. 2022 3rd round pick (MTL)
  3. 2022 4th round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
Since we had 0 2nds, MTL trades with VGK to get that handled. Since VGK isn't known for the most strong prospect pool, VGK could agree potentially to move down and grab some potential steals. In addition to getting Kale Clague in return. Former Brandon Wheat King, which is an important attribute to have knowing the history of Kelly McCrimmon

Finally a decent Anderson trade but I still don’t want Anderson but I wouldn’t trade a 7th for him unless we immediately flip him

If petry was a ld or the contract was better sure but he isn't and its not a great contract.

I agree and this is NOTHING like the Leddy trade. In 2 years it could be like the Leddy trade.

You explained why that would make no sense for Detroit. Leddy was on an expiring deal and Wings knew they could recoup what they paid. Petry contract obviously would prevent that. I could see Wings having some interest if Habs want to give him away but no way they're paying good assets for him
