Naaah, your second "like" hit the one antagonistic Wild fan in their entire fanbase. (In my experience, the Minnesota guys are otherwise universally the nicest members of CapFriendly.) I outdate you in age by 3 years but didn't start following hockey until the Islander expansion, so you and I have shared some memorable experiences!! You'll remember when in the early days of cable tv, NYC residents got the Boston feed (all Red Sox, Celtic and Bruins games), the Philadelphia feed (all Phillies, 76ers and Flyers games), the Chicago feed (all Cubs, Bulls and BlackHawk games) and the two NY feeds (Yankees, Mets, KKnicks, Nets, Islanders and Rangers), all for the low, low price of $9.95 per month. I still have a Betamax tape recording of the 5-overtime playoff game the Islanders won on a Pat LaFontaine turnaround shot. CapFriendly for me is like Faceshnook or Tweeter to the youngsters.
I do remember well. You should have tried to follow the puck in the 50s on a black and white when they used kinescope to deliver the video. It was tough. The announcer in those days was Win Elliot. In the future, I will, from time to time a thrill you with some of my Ranger reminiscences. I'd like to hear some of yours. too. I remember that games a well. If I recall it ended about 2:15AM the following day. On of the greatest Stanley Cup overtime games ever played to be sure. Before I sign off, I saw something today that I think you'll be interested. There will be 3 home and homers on the NYR schedule for 22-23; the Isles, the Devils and the Bruins. Now the reason for Isles and the Devils is obvious, but you have to be a Rangers fan of a certain vintage to understand the Bruins. Back in the original six era (and I bore witness to the second half of that era), teams played a 70 games schedule playing cash of the other five 14 times, 7 home, 7 away. The NHL tried to include 2 home and homes with each team every year. It didn't always work, conflicts with that basketball teams, the circus, the rode, the Ice Capades ......... By the mid 50's the Rangers and Bruins would be rated 5 and 6 in the league. They each made the playoffs occasionally. They also had the two toughest team, and I'm not talkin about the Federal League. So now I'll get to why the Bruins. In those days the Bruins played their weekend home games on Saturday Night, the Rangers at MSG (#3) on Sunday nights. I have a vivid memory of watching a Saturday Night Rangers-Bruins tilt that included several 10-rounders. Al so watching with me was my father, my younger brother, my uncle and his two boys. Sitting the table were six tickets for the return match at MSG the following night. With regard to the fisticuffs, they generally picked up where they left off. Oh those were the days my friend. Keep in touch!!
