Ducks: you need to solidify your D

Canes: you need a power play specialist and to dump Gardiner's contract

Cap dumps: Gardiner, Del Zotto and Reaves contracts expire in one year. Kassian's contract can be bought out in a year.

By that logic Montreal needs Petry worse than the Ducks do. Look, seeing that a team needs "a" defenseman doesn't mean they want "your" defenseman. Petry is old and has a terrible contract. It doesn't need to get any deeper than that as to why the Ducks say no.
