Cap with some RFA guesses and muzzin traded for picks

Created by: BCAPP
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 29, 2022
Published: Jul. 2, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
3rd/4th line are more just both bottom 6 and not 3rd/4th so much as bottom 6 lines with different responosbilities

So about 5 million to spend on top of vets min to carry a 22 man roster.

If the other rw is a prospect it will cost about min.

So 5 mil to split between goalie and a forward on-top of 750 each or 6.5 mil total

So one could be like 3 and the other 3.5

I'm not a kings fan so happy to be corrected but I feel like a deal could be made here. They're right side seems better than their left on d. I know they have a few kids they like the upside of on the left but lack experience. Obviously he has a history there. His cap hit is fair for his current production may be high if he declines. But la is much less cap strapped than the leafs

Obviously the cost would be much lower than the leafs paid for him a few years back

Interesting idea. Not a Kings fan, but from everything I've read...seems like a good fit for sure. I would tend to think Muzzin would waive to go back to were he already has found success.

Why not just bite the bullet and trade away Mrazek? Do you think COL fans care about overpaying for Darcy Kuemper? When you're trying to win it all...you tend to overpay

La fans don't seem to want him back. No one on this site appears to value Muzzin. I think he would be a great fit on LA and New York Isles. I assume he would not waive for Isles though. Probably would for LA though.

I think 80% chance Muzzin returns with the Leafs. 10% LA. 5% Isles. 5% other.

I assume Mrazek will be gone for sure as well, as a dump somewhere.

As for prospects, I assume Anderson gets the checking 4th line rw role you listed. Steeves and McMann (and MAYBE Douglas since he is HUGE) will fight for 4th line C.

I also think there is a 50% chance Kerfoot is gone. But I can definitely seeing him staying as well, since he provides a lot of value at 3.5m. I just think they will try to use him to get a more physical type of player with his cap.

Hey, I like thought of Muzzin being traded for cap reasons, but don't see Muzzin waiving or any team accepting him without cap being returned. His return for no cap space is a 7th rounder.
If th Leafs could pull off a Muzzin miracle trade, the Leafs certainly would use the cap to carry a good 7th NHL Dman, and/or a better goalie.

After the Fiala trade we can’t afford to keep Lemieux, how in the world would we keep Muzzin?

Right now we have $12 million in cap space, with Adrian Kempe (at least $5 million), Mikey Anderson (at least $2.5 million) and Sean Durzi (at least $1.5 million) slated for 3 of our 6 open roster slots. That leaves roughly $1 million for each of the three remaining players, who will probably be Carl Grundstrom, Gabe Vilardi and the final defenseman. So Jake Muzzin is a practical impossibility unless Alex Iafallo or Cal Petersen is going the other way, in which case Toronto would be adding a boatload extra because either of those players is worth a lot more to us than Muzzin would be.

    WRONG!

Value of muzzin for a team is not what we kings fans are telling you guys. We’re saying, for the billionth time, he’s not in their age range in trading for a player. They’ll just resign edler, who was fine.

Also, the kings will be up against the cap real soon this Season with all their RFAs needing to be signed along with Kempe. Getting fiala made muzzin practically impossible now.

From an asset value perspective mrazek's value is lower right now than his likely actual value. Hes coming off a terrible year, but frankly I see no reason to strongly suspect any other 1b goaltender would be significantly better than him except maybe psychologically.

In the end his career numbers and his numbers over the last 3-4 years are likely as good as any other reasonable 1b option. Would I rather have one of those other guys for 1.5-2 million? Sure. But when I look at the cost of getting rid of him for a lateral move to save 2 mil? Likely not worth it.

That being said I'm not against it, mostly just wanted to see the cap space without doing it and post it to see

I think trading kerfoot without picking up another guy who can play top 2 c with an injury is really stupid. Kerfoots biggest value to the team is his versatility. If Matthew or Tavares goes down Kampf can't play top 6 c. So we need kerfoot.

    I don't want a defensive c for 4 c if we have Kampf. We don't need two of them. I'd roll a speed/scoring line
