how does this fix goaltending? Why would you trade for a 6 million dollar goalie who hasnt been a starter by any metric for 3+ years and give up a bunch of good futures when you can just sign campbell for less?

Gibson is a good idea but a serious roll of the dice at that price point.

And Simmonds and Clifford on the team? Yikes

Kerfoot isnt a cap dump, and if traded would fetch a 2nd round pick most likely

Holl and the third get you one year of Anthony Stolarz, so you're evaluating 5 years of John Gibson as one first-round draft pick more.

Think that over.

He is a cap casualty, though. The only reason Toronto would trade him is to have cap space to do other things, and interested teams know this. He's also on an expiring contract, so it's certainly possible that the market for him is softer than Toronto might hope . . . probably even in places like Seattle, if you can believe that!

I totally agree. This is what I keep telling Leafs fans but apparently I’m in the minority… why are you giving up asset to take on a long term contract for a goalie he has been very bad the last 3 seasons? The only way it makes sense is if Anaheim retains salary and cushions the risk and they aren’t doing that for a player with 4 years remaining. There is no fit there IMO.

The picks doesn't matter, but Minnesota isn't taking on any team cap dump

Quite the opposite imo, cup contending teams every year are looking for that Kerfoot type of player who can play in the middle 6 and come at a cheap price like Kerfoot does. Toronto isnt in a hurry to trade him as his cap (even in Toronto) is manageable at 3.5.

I was referring to the premise of this ACGM trade, though, and the thousand others like it on CF, where Kerfoot is traded for obvious cap space. Sure seems a lot of Toronto fans (and others) are sure in a hurry to trade the guy!

Additionly, 90% of the Kerfoot trades on here are to Seattle, a team that has no misconceptions of being a contender. Yet time and time again, Seattle parts with draft assets for one year of Kerfoot's services! All because of some misconceived fit, Kraken's ample cap space and draft picks.
