Oilers and a massive improvement

Created by: steven10125
Team: 2022-23 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 2, 2022
Published: Jul. 2, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This helps the team improve the forward depth after losing Kane and gives us a solid goalie moving forward. The defense has been restructured and improved on slightly, giving the team options for bringing Broberg up from Bakersfield when needed and back down to play. Finally the extra 3m cap space that we could get from moving Foegele allows us enough wiggle room to bring in a solid player either in the offseason or during the trade deadline to give us a more-than-decent run for the cup.

The Keith arrangement you’ve described is cap circumvention and isn’t allowed.

Your Keith scenario is illegal. (circumvention) and I don't see the other trades being accepted.

I approve of the pulling an Orpik with Keith. Sticking CHI with some recapture penalty is just an added bonus.

Pretty sure there is a rule that you have to wait some window (1 season?) before you can re-sign a player traded away + buyout. The team that buys out player can re-sign but thought if player traded then bought out during same off-season, some time had to pass before original owner of rights could resign (to avoid obvious cap circumvention).

Didn’t Washington do that with Orpik? Or did they change the rule after that?

The rule is if you trade a player then have that team buy him out or your team just buys him out then that team has to wait a full year before re-signing him otherwise it is cap circumvention and illegal.

So if the Oilers bought out Keith or another team bought him out then Edmonton would be unable to sign keith for any dollar amount for a full season. I don't recall when this was started.

Also, why is every Oiler one of these assuming Kassian has any value. Would have more value taking him out of ANY trade (including fleecing trade here). Every one of these trades is other team doing Oilers favor foe no reason (plus 1 illegal cap circumventing).

They allowed the Orpik one as there was nothing written about that situation but stated after that it would no longer be an option as it "wasn't in the spirit of the salary cap"
