You do realize you dumped Tatar and it’ll take max a 3rd rounder to dump with one year left, you ruined the teams cap finances, you added another skilled player that can’t provide what the devils need (throwing the body) at the worst possible price, you have a top 7 face off man in the league playing wing in McLeod, and tell me how ur gonna afford Mercer, Holtz, L Hughes, Smith Severson Siegenthaler nemec Blackwood McLeod etc etc and stay anywhere near under the cap? While I respect, you're go for it effort here, I think that signing Gaudreau would really be a cap issue especially in 23-24 where there are only 10 players signed and only $28MM in cap space (to fill out a 22 man roster it averages only $2.3MM per player). Tying up 43% of your cap space on 4 players (Gaudreau, Hughes, Hamilton and Hischier), is a recipe for disaster.

12M for max term is a huge number. Johnny would sign but not sure who NJ is bidding with. Only Philly (no cap space) & NJ are going to be desirable & sounds like Cgy going to offer 9.5 for 8 years. Feels like $11M, or maybe even 10.5 per could get it done & gets you 2 extra depth players. Also wondering how Johnny & Dougie on same team 2.0 will go, was a bit of turmoil last time around.
