How does this make sense for Nashville?

Who is moving to the right side?

Love this trade. Both teams win. TB gets some serious cap help and NSH get a solid D-man.

Tampa clears a ton of cap without having to add any sweeteners or retaining anything.
Should give them the space to resign Palat.

Nashville gets a serviceable top 4 LHD, though McDonaugh may suffer a steep decline in the not too distant future.

I vote fair deal.

Not in the same division.
Not even the same conference (if they still are a thing).
Preds couldn't care less about doing them a favor.

I mean, you save a good amount of cash but grab a cap dump who you are gonna buy out, and now are weaker on defence while wanting to sign Palat

They dealt the wrong guy, should’ve been Killorn, he would’ve gotten a better return which could’ve helped longer term

McDonagh for Mismash. Got it

Edit: guess they aren’t gonna buy Myers out

Wow, McDonagh is out of his prime but damn you'd think tampa could get a bigger return. They wanted cap space out of the this trade and they got it. I vote nashville as winners because they get a solid D, out of his prime but he's serviceable in the top 4.

Bold prediction:
Grant Mishmash will end up being the best player in this trade when we look back on it.

Nashville wins this, but it isnt awful for Tampa. Myers will almost 100% be bought out which somehow gives Tampa 616k in extra cap. Nashville now has a left side of Josi / McDonagh / Ekholm which is probably the best in the league. I like it for both sides but Nashville definitely wins

A little surprised Nashville is the one getting McDonough given they already have Josi and Ekholm, but this is a good trade for them.

If Tampa buys out Meyers they get an extra ~600k cap space this year, with ~600k in dead cap in 23/24

So this means there is a market for Muzzin that said I doubt he's moved and instead Sandin learns to play the right side

I don't really understand it from Nashville's POV with Ekholm & Josi locked in for the next four years. Feels like this is a mismatch.

Hard to replace on Tampa as well

In theory, Tampa won this trade, because we needed cap space and we found it. We off-loaded $7.1m if we buyout Myers since his contract structure means his buyout would be negative for the first year. That's enough to keep Palat and Rutta, and that's ultimately what we set out to do. But how do we replace McDonagh? We don't have four top-four defensemen anymore and I don't quite understand how that's supposed to work on a Cup contender, much less one that relies heavily on defense...

This is a good trade for Nashville and a great trade for Tampa Bay. I voted Fair Deal -- both teams got what they wanted.
