5Logo of the Philadelphia Flyers-First curveball of the draft. Phi goes for the "analyst's choice". Not a horrible pick but they'll regret not taking Savoie or Nemec.

8Logo of the Detroit Red Wings-2nd curveball. Lekkerimaki is a solid choice but maybe a bit of a reach at 8. Wings like to take Europeans and aren't afraid to draft the player they WANT.
9Logo of the Buffalo Sabres-Buffalo is handed a gift at 9 with Nemec. Think of this like Perfetti in 2020 or Guenther last year. They aren't hurting for D prospects but they won't be able to resist.

Nemec isn't dropping to 9. He'll be gone by 6, GMs should take him prior to that. He's a Top 3 player in the draft class. No one should take Kemell or Lekkerimäki ahead of him.

Geekie at 16 is far from a steal, that's a reach.

A healthy Miroshnichenko would not easily be in the Top 10 or even Top 5. He would be Top 20 if he were 100% healthy.

1. Someone is almost certainly going to drop and I picked Nemec. I just don't see any other team from 5-8 taking him besides Philly and it's looking like Gauthier is the guy they're after. I agree Nemec should go higher but someone always goes lower than projected.

2. Geekie has been projected as a top 10 for most of the year and it's only been recently that he's dropped out of the top 10. I doubt he goes any lower than 16.

3. Miroshnichenko, before his diagnosis, was projected in the top 5. He's an easy top 10. No way, if he was 100% healthy, does he go any lower than 10.

Nemec is the safer pick at 4 and my guess is he doesn't slip past the Kraken. No reason for CBJ not to take Nemec, especially after selecting 2 Forward in the 1st last year.

A lot of people (me included) had Geekie in the low 10s / high 20s for weeks if not months, he's too risky in the high 10s. Either way he isn't someone I'd call a steal at 16.

He wasn't projected to be Top 5 and not easily Top 10. He was trending downwards before his cancer diagnosis and a lot of people had him outside of the Top 10 (or Top 15) because of concerns that can't be overlooked. Examples are smahtscouting (17th on January 23rd) and DobberProspects (15th on December 18th).
