We'd rather invest that first-round pick continuing our development plan and no reason to trade away a backup goalie that Vancouver doesn't need.

We're not ready to give up on Max Comtois just yet, just as we weren't ready to give up on Troy Terry when everyone was offering a fourth for him. But check back with us at the trade deadline.

8.5 mil on Kulak + Manson is not ideal for the next 4 yrs. If anh wanted to be good, that 8.5m could go to much better use. Van says no to that trade likely takes a 1st, decent roster player of team need, and a prospect for garland.

Van doesn’t need another backup goalie and garland is worth more than a 1st potentially 2 years from now

They kinda do need a backup because Halak is both awful and possibly retiring
