Would they really though? I get taking the best player available, but they Really don't need a center.

"we have too many forwards capable of playing top 6 C" - no NHL GM ever. They'd either roll with the deepest center core in the league or they'd move one to wing. A Wright - Hughes - Holtz line makes me feel things

Maybe I’m crazy, but I don’t really understand the appeal of Josh Anderson. He’s a big dude who plays physically, but hasn’t scored more than 20 goals in a season other than once, and has a career high of 47 points like 4 years ago. He’s slightly more than a 0.5 point/game player with a 5.5 million dollar contract for a long time. Feels like the sens would be better off with the 7th OA pick, no? That Anderson contract would still be around when they need to give a huge pay raise to Stutzle, Sanderson, and bridge prospects picked in the next two years. Picking high now means they can surround Norris, Stutzle, Sanderson, and Chabot with cheap, high end talent when they all have big contracts.

I’m a leafs fan and don’t super remember anything Anderson did in the playoffs other than hit. It seems like he’s overpaid by 1.5-2 million until 2027, it’d be a big bet that he figures out something after being in the league for 7 years. I don’t watch the Canadiens regularly, though, so let me know if I’m off.

Cool. Good luck with that... All to hold Zacha a player most NJD fans have been trying to trade the rights to all offseason.

bruh it's not to hold Zacha. nobody cares about Zacha. it's that it's bad asset management to move up if we don't care who you pick because we're fine with either Wright or Slafkovsky. also Hoffman is awful lol

I think it's a fair point and a lot of us Habs fans have rose colored glasses when it comes to Josh. The truth is he's not a game breaker. As a forward playing with a Center who makes his teammates better, he can be an incredible weapon.

He definitely shows his value in the playoffs more than the regular season. He's fast. He makes guys look twice while heading into the corners and wins the puck more often than not. He can get in traffic in front of the net, and he stands up for his teammates.

Keep in mind he's played for terrible teams for 7 years. CBJ and the Habs. Not exactly offensive juggernauts. With an offensive-minded team he's probably good for 60 pts/season but never gonna be a point per game guy. But definitely the player you want in the post-season.

Oh... And yes like most Habs he's overpaid... Because Bergevin reasons

I’d call Ottawa and ask about Matt Murray. Especially if we think Price is done. Take on Murray and his whole contract and ask for 7th overall. Maybe need to add a little bit to get that pick but I’d aim for that

Yea...Habs fans are big braining this. Devils will worth with whatever is left. They might not even love Wright's upside and want Cooley. Nothing at the top is clear. The only thing might be a matter of a team like PHI wanting to trade up for a C and the Devils moving down to take a RHD plus whatever extra PHI throws in.

Honestly, if Montreal takes Slafkovsky, I think the Devils have so many options it actually makes the spot envious.

1) Draft Wright
2) Trade Down for Nemec or JIricek
3) Trade #2 for an impact player

NHL GM's and Amateur scouts generally get 2 or 3 chances to draft a top 5 player in their careers. The fact that you are saying they "don't care" and are not interested in having the opportunity to "call their shot" is total nonsense. Of course they believe in themselves and want the opportunity to select their choice at number 1.

They certainly have those opportunities... But they also have the opportunity to trade a player they don't really care about to get a player they cover.

And a GM should be able to see a bad bluff too...

There is no clear #1. Habs fans have to get over all these made up storyline.

I'm fine with any of the top 3 ...not taking on the Hoffman deal to make it work for any single one.

Bro. I'm sorry but the Devils simply will not value moving up /one spot/ the way you think they will. They will take whoever is there between Wright and Slafkovsky and they will be thrilled. Especially when it means downgrading from Zacha to Hoffman to do so.

If you want Zacha, I'm sure the Habs and Devils can work something else out.

Also the Devils have drafted in the top 5 3 times in the last 5 years so that's just a hysterical talking point

Not sure it's a Bluff. The Habs brain trust (including Hughes, Gorton, and Lecavalier) spent way more time personally scouting Slafkovsky then Wright. They went to a few Wright games but they spent 2.5 weeks following Slafkovsky around during the world championships. They definitely think he has the highest upside in the draft and they are planning to get another top 5 pick next year (unlike the Devils).

I don't think the Habs want Zacha that much. Another player could work. The Habs want cap-relief and also need a LW who can keep up with Caufield & Suzuki. Hoffman made sense but it can equally be Drouin, Dadonov, Gallagher, Armia. There is no limit to the overpaid wingers in Montreal.
