Pens decline. If they weren’t willing to give up a 1st for Rakell, they surely aren’t giving up a 1st for a pp specialist that would barely get any pp time here.

He hasn't been just a pp specialist for quite a while.

Big difference between trading for a player and signing him to a contract and trading for a rental at the deadline

The guy has only been in the league for 3 years. So idk where you get that he hasn’t been just a pp specialist for quite a while. This past year was the first year he didn’t have more pp goals than even strength goals. 2 of his 3 years over half his goals scored were powerplay goals. This past year over a third of his goals were powerplay goals. 2 of his 3 years almost half his points have been on the powerplay. He’s got 55 total career goals. 27 are on the powerplay. He’s a powerplay specialist whether you want to admit it or not lol

Until the Sabres see how Quinn adapts to the NHL, I don't think they're shedding Olofsson just yet, especially not for just draft picks. He's a popular player in the lockerroom and reportedly a hard worker off the ice (despite what fans see) so it seems Adams will try to buy some time with a 3 year bridge deal to keep Olofsson (1 of only 2 true snipers on the roster at the moment) and take some of the pressure off Quinn and Peterka.

Agreed - especially if, as the Vegas beat writers speculate, the Knights try to become a more physical team under Cassidy. Kolesar is probably not as expendable as Hague, given the Knights have a solid top 4 right now in Martinez-Pietrangelo-Theodore-McNabb and have Whitecloud and Coghlan in the wings.

I do think the Sabres are 1 of the "two Eastern Conference teams" that THN reported as asking about Hague - and his age fits their rebuilding around a new core. I also wonder, based on Adams saying in his PC last week that he's been in trade talks with teams for a goalie and the Knights trying to shed cap space, if Brossoit might be part of a package the Sabres are asking about. With Thompson set as a decent backup, it makes sense for the Knights to deal Brossoit and his $2.3M cap hit.

Could Hague, Brossoit and re-acquiring Buffalo's '23 3rd rounder in exchange for Johnson, Potrillo and re-acquiring VGK's '23 2nd rounder work? Knights can't really add NHL cap space in any swap so getting high prospects like Johnson (LHD to replace Hague eventually) and Potrillo (goalie) would make sense for them, which Sabres add the physical size they lack with Hague and get a 1-year vet in goal.

Despite what some fans see. It's tough to shake labels. Probably true that he at least starts the year here, his salary helps us reach the floor.

Hague is not going to be moved, moving him does not give them cap space to sign their other players, If the plan is to bring back Smith at the reported 5M then they will very likely be moving out both of Brossoit (who has been replaced by Thompson) and Martinez (who is more of a luxary at this point).

Quinn has the makings of being very similar too - quick release, decent 2-way instincts and solid skater. At some point, the Sabres may realize they have a luxury in having two of the same kind of scorer and decide they can trade the older Olofsson for help in a different position of greater need.......but they're not at that point now. Adams will remain patient.

Well, if the media reports out of Vegas are reliable, Hague is looking for a longer term deal in the $2M+ range rather than accepting his QO......which does impact VGK's cap, even if they deal Brossoit.

Also, for a team that's always been in 'win-now' mode and who just endured a hugely disappointing drop-off by missing the playoffs this year, it's hard to imagine they deal off Martinez just yet. He's one of their top 4 and a key playoff veteran.

I wouldn't trade Olofsson, I think that injury was a blessing his 5vs5 play improved immensely and once the wrist healed he was very good. Only way I move him is for a top4 RD or in a package for a better Winger.

He probably gets a 2M deal. 2M still doesnt allow them to sign all their RFA's and bring back Smith. They need to move out a bigger deal.

Vegas has a very strange definition of "win-now." They have never been afraid to move out what most teams would consider core players
