Pens decline hard for various reasons. Financial cap reasons and also value. They can't afford both Zacha and Severson, and while both a solid players Marino + 1st is too much.

Why would Edmonton trade Puljujarvi for a more expensive Tatar. The only incentive to trade Puljujarvi is to clear cap.

I honestly don’t like trading Grit. I think he potentially has the 2nd highest ceiling in our system 😅

I’m fine taking out the 1st if Grit isn’t included in the return from NJ. I’m assuming the Pens aren’t resigning Malkin and/or Letang as well. I figured it was asking too much, but no way to find out without trying!

It's looking more likely the Pens keep Letang, but even if they did, trading Marino now still leaves them short a 2nd pairing RHD having only Severson then Ruhwedel. Zacha is good, but he's not really a player the Pens need. Between McGinn and Heinen they pretty much have that covered. I'm not sure NJD and the Pens are very good trading partners.

Who not just re-sign Severson? Is the Pens pick really worth giving up all those pieces and the downgrade on dmen?

Same thing for Smith and Sandin. Right now Sandin projects a wee bit better, but both would be 3rd pair guys playing similar roles. The swap in picks is minor and Stillman is tbd. But I don’t see any reason to do.

We’d only get 80 cents on the dollar for any unsigned Russian prospects right now. I see no reason to move Gritsyuk as well.

Why not just OS Sandin for $3.5 or whatever and either force TOR to match or only give up a 2nd?

Yeah, but what do we do with Sandin?

Siegenthaler - Severson
Graves/Hughes - Hamilton
Sandin/Smtih/Bahl/Okhotiuk - Mukhamadullin/Walsh

I’m not a fan of a long term Sevo, with his age. And I wanted to sell him at the TDL. I think he’s valuable, but I’m not sure he fits moving forward even with him anticipated hometown discount

I think Sandin has a much higher ceiling than Smith, and his underlyings back that up.

I wouldn't go long on Graves in this case

Graves for 1-year, Hughes replaces him.

Bottom-pair still crowded.
