I thought Seattle had more 1st rounders

What a debacle to be so bad, and so little to show for it. If you're going to go heavy into analytics but your plan is throwing a bunch of darts at a board with 2nd rounders, that is quite counter intuitive. Be confident and go after quality

good luck with that when a buyout isnt happening and there are 2-3 teams that would be willing to take that contract. Leverage is zero

You aren’t getting Necas for just draft capital, and not even that good of picks.

What exactly moves Necas?

Canes couldnt match an offer sheet of 6.3M which is only a 1st and 3rd as compensation. This is more than fair with a cap dump added.

Bonino contract took a 2nd and 3rd to move. Gostibehere took a 2nd last season. The cap situation is even more dire for teams around the league. Believing a 3rd moves a goalie which is far less valuable than a D or forward is laughbale, indeed

Canes pass. Necas would be moved for an upgrade, not for futures or to offset a Gardiner cap dump. That’s silly

They could definitely match it but I’m sure they wouldn’t want to get it to that point.

Necas moved in a package for an upgrade.

That's the thing Seattle could overpay for Necas at 6.3M and it would still be cheaper than taking on Gardiner's deal. At least this way the Canes get better picks and dump cap. Its the same for Seattle.

The Canes arent going to be able to bring everyone back, this would just weaponize an asset they have at their disposal without losing a bunch of chips like Trocheck and DeAngelo for little to nothing.

They could match it. Troch and Nino are probably gone and they can move Gardiner. It’s not really a cap crunch, they’re just not going to bring those guys back and they’ll target others in UFA. If they want to keep Necas they can match an OS like that unless they deem it not worth keeping him long term. And I expect that decision happens before an OS sheet comes so they’ll either package him for an upgrade or have him signed if they want to keep him around. If SEA wants to throw like 8m at him it’s a different conversation but I still think it all gets resolved before an OS happens.

It did happen. 1st and Mzarek for an asset. Haydn Fleury is worth more than a 2nd in a bad draft.

Aye, I’m still happy. Leafs got the guy they wanted. Could have traded more to get rid of mrazek but they didn’t
