Panik signed Make some moves

Created by: NickC1988
Team: 2017-18 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: May 11, 2017
Published: May 11, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think Colorado wins the trade they get a top 10 scorer who probably holds more trade value than Duchene. They can flip him for a big return.

Montreal gets the big center they've always been looking for.

Toronto gets to fulfill their goal of moving Nylander to center.

NO Patrick Sharp .. and I doubt Colorado retains $2,000,000 to rid themselves of Duchene. Is Panarin really that much of an upgrade over Duchene? Is Panarin a top 10 scorer because he's really that great or because he played with Kane ?

YES Patrick Sharp. He makes the team deeper on offense and can play many situations. He's a low risk signing who knows the Hawks system well. Yes panarin's value is sky high and many teams are looking for scoring. Colorado wants a large return and Panarin can bring that in.

Anisimov for Beaulieu, I would do it as a Habs fan.

I personally don't see the value in bringing Sharp back. They aren't getting the Sharp from 2010-2015. Knowing the system well isn't always the best recipe, look at Campbell and Oduya! They need to get younger and faster, Nashville beat them with their speed. The hawks were 2nd to every puck. Yes Panarin's value is sky high but I don't see Colorado retaining $2,000,000 to trade Duchene within their division and not getting defensive help back which is what they need.

They get faster with duchene. The point of trading Duchene for Panarin is to flip him to a team that wants a 1st line scorer. Can Columbus offer a better package for duchene than a team like Montreal offering something for Panarin?

I can't believe they gave him $2.8M per year. EVEN HE knows he owes the Hawks!!!

Most experts around the league expected it to be a maximum of $2.5 million. The hawks overpaid for a player whose consistency last year and overall has been questionable. Sharp is not an option for this team cause I doubt he wants to sign for that little. Plus you have to remember he had major concussion and injury issues while losing a lot of his speed and scoring touch. Toronto is not going to trade for a second pick and Ville Polka. Rumors had that Chicago tried to shop him at the trade deadline and with how competitive Toronto is now they are not interested in taking a step back for Ville Polka. Habs trade could be interesting, but Colorado is not going to trade Duchenne for Panarin. Duchenne is more valuable to them then a perimeter performer whose struggles with zone entries and to create his own offense last year. Most of Panarin's goal's are one timers from the circle. Also remember Colorado asked for a top defender and a high draft pick for him last year they won't add more offense without a draft pick in return. Also Debrincat is not ready for a top line roll. If anything he would join the team like Tuevo did in 2015 not at the start of the year.

One time in 5 seasons! He's 26 years old and Toronto traded him for...Jeremy Morin!!! You're welcome for saving your NHL career!!! If Bowman wasn't over a barrel before...he sure as heck is now!

1st, I like the team you posted. I think Duchene would be a great add.

2nd, That's 100% NOT how it works for other teams. Why did Trouba and Lindholm sit out? Why did Kuch sign a screaming low bargin? Bowman plays the loyalty card, but this is absurd. Panik owes Chicago not the other way around. Not only does he know it...he physically said those words. Now if they turn around and trade him...ok...what did we get back, but I'm not holding my breath.

Lindholm held out because he wanted a deal like Risto (BUF) and didn't want to play the season worrying about an extension or being baited around as trade bait.

Exactly. Plus, Panik's cheap deal was the 875K one he had last season. They told him if he can keep up his play from the playoffs he'd get more. He did and now he's got more.

$2.8M/2yrs for a guy who can play and produce on the 1st line isn't too shabby. Panik expressed concern that he could now be exposed in the x draft rather than playing for the team he signed with. If so, why sign the contract now? There must be other moves on the horizon.

Step forward, backward, up or down? Stanley promised changes.

There's no way the 875k was "the cheap deal." Not a chance. You don't play over half a season (at age 25) in the AHL for the Marlies and expect a 7 figure salary. Play well in the playoffs??? If that conversation was real...I'd fire bowman IMMEDIATELY. 1.) Way to really follow through on your words that you're upset about the hawks performance. 2.) Has he learned nothing? Playoffs performance...We just got rid of Bickells contract and had to lose Turbo because of it.

Grader - Just saw your post. That may be true. This goes to that whole loyalty post/convo I had with you yesterday or the day before.

Bickell's extension was absurd because he never played a top six role until the 2013 playoffs. At least Panik did fairly well when he got his opportunity up there. Plus it is a lower hit and half the term than Bickell's. Not sure if any clauses can be included but it appears to be a decent deal by Bowman anyway. (Better than Kruger's as well!).

At least Kruger truly did have a cave year contract wise. Bickell would have been a UFA which (to me anyway) kinda offsets the point of being less money...because it's just further upsetting that Panik actually got $2.8M. I would agree that Panik played well last year. And I do like that he's on the Hawks. It's just this whole loyalty thing is killing me. It's sooooooo 1 sided. Bowman's getting taken advantage of. How many jobs have you interviewed for where the company comes out and first offer, blows your mind away. To the point where you publicly say. "not much to negotiate about"

I can find $3M in cap EASY. Play Panarin 81 games instead of 82 and give Panik a real deal. Done

This past season was Panik's "prove that you can emulate your performance in the 2016 Stanley cup playoffs" contract. He passed. I rather have panik signed at this rate than Shaw signed at 3.9 for 5.

That contract should have been for $700k. He proved very very little the season before. He had 4 good games in the playoffs and that was pretty much it.

lol A lot of what he said make complete sense. I won't say I agree with all of it but much of it is right.

As far as what I see, not a single GM would have given him an offer sheet for more than 2.5M. Not with how much he has struggled with inconsistency his whole career. Bowman needs to learn how to play hardball like other GM's. It is by no means a ''bad signing" but it could almost certainly have been better. Kevin Hayes was signed for less than this and he has 3 years of consistent play under his belt.
