He's proven he's capable of being an NHL back up - 96 starts | 2.67 GAA | 91.5% SV

Pittsburgh has gotta be shrewd with where they put their money. There may have been other options that appeared more appealing, but this feels like a secure bit of business handled.

A 30yr old Goalie that had a break out season at 28, then 2 injury prone, up & down seasons....

We just gave a #3 Goalie $1.8m Per.... Sooo Bad

Agreed - the injuries are the biggest concern, but really - who cares when his breakout season was?

Isn't it more relevant to ask what can he provide and what's it worth?

Are his career stats what you would expect to see from a decent back up? I think so.

I know it sounds like I'm defending this signing as if it's a bulletproof plan, which it's not, but I'm just wondering - what are the better options? Holtby or Halak?

The only thing I can think of is Fleury at $2M - but I gotta think he's gonna get more than that somewhere else.

DeSmith is a better than DeMrazek.

And half the cost.

Welp, as someone mentioned earlier in this thread - Fleury to PIT is definitely not happening now.

I really dislike this guy as a person, but I can't say this isn't a good deal. He's a capable backup.

On the topic of Fleury - I feel like going back to PIT for him would've actually been a huge mistake for Pittsburgh. Wouldn't have been surprised if PIT felt like they had to force-feed games to Fleury because of his connection to the franchise, turning Jarry from a guy playing starter minutes to a 1A/1B tandem. I mean - it works, but it takes away from Jarry, who should definitely be the starter going forward.
