Rangers can't afford this, even if it were a fair deal. It isn't.

I think it's a fair deal. Not like either of those Rangers are playing well on a really good team. I think Laine is fair trade value for them both. He is one of the better goal scores in the last 5-6 seasons. I completely concur with the afford part but every team will have that issue.

How? It's not like either one of them have come out of the gates hot. Laine is a great player. A point a game last season on an okay team. On average he scores 35-36 goals a season.

Because he doesn't want to be with the Jackets long term. Just like the Jones trade last year.

NYR can’t afford Laine, also if we trade Laine please get a center in return, not more freaking wings. We have plenty of wings.

so by this logic anyone who hasn't said "I want to be here" wants to leave the team they're on

Pains me to say this as a Jackets fan, but kinda yeah. Even though we as fans know that all three 2019 FAs had separate not in any way related to Columbus reasons to walk, the narrative still exists. Until there's a longterm winning culture here, generally speaking, you can comfortably assume that.

Oh. It's entirely imaginary. I suppose I should have taken the shibboleth failure as the warning it generally is...

Says he “absolutely” expects a deal to get done."

Nah. I'm assuming that was the only relevant part of what he said about Laine. That would put the contract at most 3-4 weeks away though since arbitration hearings are over in early August.
