The retool

Created by: jimmyjets
Team: 2022-23 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 5, 2022
Published: Jul. 5, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Jets decide they still want to try to contend but that there are some players that it's time to move on from:

Wheeler 50% retained with Big Svech to Carolina makes sense for them to reunite the brothers and to get an elite winger at a $4.25M hit for 2 more years when they will want max cap to extend Aho, sign Jarvis, etc.

Jets take on Poolparty as a right shot play driving winger that we need. give them a different former 1st round finnish winger and a 2nd round pick for the cap flexibility.

Habs flip Anderson to the Islanders for 13OA and then turn that pick and Barron into PLD allowing them to have their Suzuki/PLD one two punch down the middle long term as well as get another elite winger in Slaf to pair with Caulfield.

Obligatory Schmidt to Detroit for a 3rd rounder as it seems to work for both sides.

Then because this is dream land we dive into the UFA market and sign the guy most people wanted instead of Trouba in that draft as an elite RHS winger to fill out the top 6.

The Jets RHD situation looks vastly better in the future with Barron, Morrow and likely another RHD picked at 30OA in the draft this year. With 13OA and 14OA they can grab 2 more impact players, likely at least 1 of which is a center in case Lucius needs to move to wing.

Really it just all hinges on if Perfetti or Barron can handle the 2C job this year or not.

Canes pass. Would rather sign a lesser player than trade Morrow

Big Svech isn’t of much interest

There's between 0 to 0.1% habs trade barron who's their best RHD prospect and the guy who was the main return in trading fan favorite lehkonen for.... habs have a bigger organizational need for a RD than a C

I was wondering if Morrow was going to be a sticking point or not. I would think that Little Svech would want Big Svech but I get that too. Thanks for the feedback.

I just find that guys who have been traded are more easily traded again then guys that were drafted and developed. Was trying to think of what would make sense for a PLD return for the Jets and a mid 1st and near ready RHD would check the boxes for me. You could draft a couple more RHD with Calgary's 1st and your own 2nd rounder was my thought. You have Savard under contract 3 more years and Petry as well (although my understanding is he has asked for a trade) as well as Romanov that can play some right side. Guhle looks really good on the left side.

Anyhow, I appreciate your opinion here. I'm obviously asking for guys that will hurt to give, which is kind of the point as it really hurts to move out the guys I am.

Jets don’t hire bowness and rebuild, possibly at least a year away, or trade deadline, draft and next off season. Possibly only a single move or two this off-season.

PLD wants to play in MTL, Hughes will just wait until he's a UFA in 2 years and not lose any assets. Plus MTL is not looking to contend in the next two years anyway.

How many times do Islanders fans have to say they will not be trading their 13th overall pick for Josh Anderson. It just isn't gonna happen.

It doesn't matter how many other teams he passes through, the Islanders don't need or want Anderson.

Any Islander fan who gives Stefen Rosner clicks ever again needs to give their heads a shake.

Wheeler isn’t getting anywhere close to returning a top prospect, let alone a couple of high picks, even with half retention. E. Svech really isn’t that useful for the Canes.
