Value is fine and the Bruins do want to get back in the 1st round, but they also need cap space, so they decline.

Why take back Khudobin. He played 15 games last year and 6 of them were in the AHL and he's 36. No need to take back salary in a Puuljarvi deal even if the return is less. That cap space should be utilized more efficiently.

money in and money out seems to be the theme since the flat cap. Dont see a deal being made unless salary matches. Reilly and Kassian both make 3M

Holland wants a player back and Dallas cap is tight. Money in and money out. ppl going to be disappointed if they expect a lot of trades at the draft without salary going back and forth. Only way they get a 2nd is with cap going back.

Same reason barrie is traded for peanuts, no one can afford him. This assumes Price goes on LTIR

I don't mind taking a contract back but why take a cap dump that will be burried in the AHL back? Surely you can take back an NHL roster player instead somewhere.

Holland isnt the type to give players away for 'free' as he calls it. No interest in Khudobin but it fits the veteran presence quotient that Holland demands. Khudobin can walk Campbell's cats in the meantime.

The inclusion of Khudobin pretty much negates all the value to be found from that trade and, as such, is an easy no. Also, I don't think ARI is keen on paying contracts where the pay is more than the cap hit. Overall, I'm not keen on the moves you've chosen to make.

You wouldnt want Giroux and Campbell?

There's no question this team is better and rdy to compete. Nitpicking taking on some bad salary with Khudobin isnt much of a critique to make in the scheme of things

I should've been more explicit: I'm not a fan of the trades you chose to make. I've developed the habit of conflating the terms "move" and "trade" so that's my bad.

While I would be fine with or pleased with the acquisitions of Campbell and Giroux, I think your roster has neglected the bottom-6 too much- especially the 4th line. I also think you haven't done enough to prepare the blueline for the playoffs. While you correctly identified skating ability as an important trait following the playoff run, I think you've underemphasized the ability to protect the slot/defend overall. Both the Avs and Lightning learned that lesson prior to their Cup wins and I think it would behoove us to try to address that concern now rather than at the deadline or next year. One way to do that would be to pursue a guy like Braun is UFA or target a name like Soucy in trade instead of Reilly.

Also of note, you're ~850k over the post-overage cap while running a 22-man roster. This is part of why that Khudobin move stood out so much.

That being said, you obviously can't fix every hole at once and there's something to be said for using deadline acquisitions to fill those holes. Since you've kept EDM's draft capital intact, I'll assume that was your intention.

I've also made ACGMs with a Soucy for Puljujarvi trade in my Kraken ACGM recently. I certainly agree. The cap does make it quite difficult to iron out every roster decision. I dont want to give away Barrie and i dont want to take on Khudobin but the roster flexibility both give in the later years make it attractive to me. Its a tough balance to go for it this year in 2022-23 but also have the leeway for future runs.

I really like Giroux on mcDavid's wing. I think McDavid's game is only growing and Giroux is one of the best in the world at complementing talent. I think we can both agree that he presents less of a distraction over an Evander Kane, whom I still don't trust with any long term deal.
He'd probably get mixed up with every Joey's waitress and have McDavid on more social media's personalities radar.
I much prefer a superstar that prefers to stay in a spot like Ottawa over the Summer on McDavid's wing than Hollywood surrounded by tiktok stars. If mcDavid wants Evander, thats fine. Its his show and he should be given options this Summer but I'm sure he'd love a player like Giroux that can handle faceoffs and is a great mentor. Giroux seems to be willing to come here and that is a welcome change.

Not sure what you're seeing for money-in, money-out deals. Those are called hockey trades. They're still rare to come by, even in the flat cap era.
