Feel like Montreal would make that deal but maybe swap Allen for the Habs 2nd since the Oilers really need a good goalie on a cheap contract.

That Montreal trade is not good. bad contract for bad contract. Also you just didn't sign Jesse?

Yeah - but MTL would accept it after the departure of Petry...

We have good wingers in the system who could use the vacancy on the LW - our RD is too thin for the habs to pass on that.

So you think Allen = #33 and not #62?

I think the Oilers need a good goalie on a cheap contract and would be willing to overpay a bit to get one.

Barrie > Hoffman

33+62 > 29

It's fair. Sure why not?

Have you forgotten that when he was two years younger, you paid a third for him?

The #62 is an overpayment for Jake Allen.

They would but goalie values are typically in the toilet that is why Rangers fans are funny with the Georgiev trade requests on a goalie they cant even afford to qualify at 2.65M. Asking for multiple picks on a goalie that they will probably let go to free agency might be the biggest joke of all

Yes but since we are including the 62nd pick as well as Allen and the Oilers may be desperate, now would be the time to take advantage of their desperation. There are other teams that could offer Fleury more money and the other cheap options aren't that great.

While it may be true that the Oilers need a good goaltender on a value contract, that goaltender also needs to be capable of starting 45-50 games and potentially backstopping a playoff run. Jake Allen may be more reliable than Mike Smith on LTIR, but he doesn't fit the description of what the Oilers need. At best, he'd be plan D, E, or F.

TBH, the way he played on a abysmal MTL team should make him at least your plan B - The guy was great a really held the fort on nights where our Dcore got caved in.

Allen is capable of playing 40+ games a year and while he was not spectacular last season he did keep Montreal in a ton of games they did not deserve to be in in the first place. of Allen's 24 losses and OTL 11 were by 2 goals or less with 8 of the others the team was down 2 goals or less in the third period and pulled Allen only to give up an EN goal. Perhaps those stats put into perspective of why Montreal would love to keep him but he does not fit with the rebuild/retool.

Allen survived a miserable season when Price was unavailable and the various inexperienced alternatives floundered behind a terrible team, that's a fair assessment. The Oilers consider themselves to be a couple pieces away from being a legitimate Stanley Cup contender, and a starting goaltender is one of the critical pieces they need. If Holland acquires Jake Allen, it is likely he will have struck out on several other options before doing so. Why? Because there are more suitable options available.

I'll reword it sorry. That trade is bad for Edmonton. EDM takes a big L on that

If you're offering for Soucy, it needs to have picks/prospects in there, not project players and 35+ veterans. Seattle is building up their prospects, not bringing on depth pieces.
