Why are you trading for Varlamov if you can sign MAF?

Isles wouldn't want to retain and while they probably want to improve the F group we can aim higher than Kerfoot

I can only see them moving Varlamov for futures or a player that fills a need for their team (scoring winger, LD2). Kerfoot doesn't fit either of those so it's a pass.

He's a 50+ pt guy for 750k cash this year. Plays all 3 positions and PK. Good luck

Is a 50+ pt guy not a scoring winger?

Neither goalie is going to play more than 40-50 games

when only 13 of those 50 points are goals, no, it's not what they're looking for. he's basically a younger Josh Bailey in terms of what he brings to the table offensively.

You're better off picking just one of them. In this case I would sign MAF rather than trade for Varlamov.

If you don't believe MAF will play 50 games, there are cheaper options out there to fill in the remaining games. Might be time to give Kallgren/Woll some extra starts to see how their development is coming.

There is no way they enter the season with either Woll or Kallgren as a 2

Kerfoot is a good but nowhere near great player that got a bad rap in Toronto for what he isn't (a high end 3 c). He's a good swiss army knife player. I agree he ISNT what nyi needs.

Ironically he is what Toronto needs but we could use a better one (perhaps trochek?)

He's a good 2w, an adequate 3c, an adequate temporary top 6 c (he has been our top 6 c replacement routinely when Matthews/Tavares are injured) and a good pk-er with one high end skill (speed).

Given the islanders have an abundance of c caliber players I don't seem him having value to you guys. But a team that could use a player like him should value him

no disagreement here - wasn't trying to slag him by comparing him to Bailey, just illustrate that he's more of a playmaker than a finisher. Isles need finishers - as you said, they already have a ton of guys who can play different spots in the lineup and pass the puck well, but they need guys to score goals.

Yeah I was trying to add to your comment not disagree. Im a leafs fan who has just been frustrated at people (mostly leafs fans) acting like he's garbage because he's not a big nasty snarling 3 c. It's hating him for what he's not instead of appreciating him for what he is.

But yeah the islanders are not the team that needs him smile

I wouldn't be surprised if Kallgren is the backup to start the year. Especially if TOR ends up spending $4.5M or more on their starter, whoever that may be.

"Cash" doesn't matter to the Isles. AAV does. They need to make a splash, Kerfoot is alright but he's not it. Feel free to trade him elsewhere. A 1st for Varly would be more than sufficient, a 3rd team can retain salary.
