Minnesota especially under Guerin, he has refused to surrender a 1st round pick for a rental. Even for Fleury, he set a condition for the pick.

Miller is awesome, but that would be a bad use of resources for Minnesota

I don’t think this trade makes Van or MN happy. Miller doesn’t seem like a fit in MN given our cap issues.

To make this work long term for us, MN would have to move another salary (on the books for 2023-2024 or longer), not just Dumba. As his salary is off the books after next season anyways (he’s unlikely to re-sign). And MN would need to sign Miller to an extension, which I don’t see happening.

Van would likely want more for Miller with an extension in place.

I could certainly be wrong, but this feels like a lose lose trade.

Why does Vancouver's fanbase think they're gonna get the equivalent of a 1st + 1st + 1st + 2nd + 2nd for a rental?

Miller isn't a rental in this case. Deal only goes through on an extension being signed. Also Dumba, Jost, 1st and a 2nd isn't 3 1sts and 2 2nds in value...

This is stretching how much the Canucks would be able to get, IMO. They could take dead cap back, but Minnesota doesn't seem to have any (entire team is on good contracts except for the two buyouts).

Miller wouldn't be a rental in this case, would be traded with an extension in plan.

From MN standpoint it’s Miller’s contract extension that presents the problem. We love the player, just can’t afford him. And they wouldn’t do this deal for a rental. So I’d bet MN rejects unless Miller signed a team friendly extension, on a team he’s yet to play for lol. Seems highly unlikely.

Trading Dumba clears 6 mil cap. Jost 2 mil.

The Dead cap hit increases two mil the next two season. So we clear 6 million in space. And Miller wants what 8/9/10 mil per? Numbers just don’t add up unless we have another cap casualty.

I’d love for us to find a way to get Miller, I just don’t think we make the other necessary moves to clear cap for it to happen.

Miller is looking at around 9x6 - 8x8 range. With cap increases (1m per season) and Miller being on the team making Minnesota a cup contender, the lesser contracts would be likely to be signed cheaper at a discount. I could see Guerin making the money work, but it would definitely be tight. It really relies on Boldy and Addison's rfa contracts and how they perform leading up to them.
