I don't really like the CBJ trade. They don't get much of quality there - they get two players that played one of the worst years of their careers and a prospect long since lost his status as a first round pick worthy.

Laine in Carolina Would be fun. I still think ends up signing long-term in Columbus, I think he's more betting on himself to earn more money if he Plays well again on a QO.

We've been over this before. Jackets won't consider it unless we get someone like Jarvis, and Carolina isn't going to do that, so why are we talking about this again?

(Also, how DARE you acquire both Laine and Puljujarvi and then not put them both on the Aho line. smile )

I know most fans overvalue their prospects and players but I think this is fair for both teams. Canes are giving up necas who underperformed, no question about that, but he is able to play center, defend, and is a zone entry cheat code. Laine doesn’t provide that but he provides a top 5 shot in the league. He is still a good player but he doesn’t contribute much outside of his offense he doesn’t contribute that much. Necas is a 3 zone player who struggled in the O zone this season but he was still displaying all the potential he has. I think necas has a higher ceiling than laine. That doesn’t mean he is worth laine right now 1-1. I agree with the point about Suzuki, i think it should be a prospect like ponomarev or rees. I’m not crazy about the canes giving up the 2023 first but that’s a big piece that needs to be included to cover the value difference between laine and necas. Obviously they are not a late first round pick apart but the other pieces help it get there. Laine on any teams role is to score. He’s very 1 dimensional in that sense and if CBJ is able to get a 3d guy like necas and more then it is worth it for them.

“Somebody like Jarvis”— necas is 1 year removed from having similar value to Jarvis. A down year will do that but he has just as much upside as Jarvis does and can play center. Ideally a 1C for the jackets till Johnson comes up. I don’t see the canes trading jarvis to the jackets unless it is for the 6th pick or a prospect swap with like Johnson or somebody. But that’s how it is. Fans value their players higher than how they value other teams players.

Would Rod let Laine play the opposite of his system? Dude's body is too big for him to get to loose pucks at any speed.

Nothing I've seen suggests Necas is a good D player. There's no possible way you can suggest Necas has a higher ceiling than Laine. There are a handful of players that have more U23 goals than Patty in the last 20 years.

None of those pieces form the centerpiece of a Laine trade. I like Necas as a player but CBJ probably can't afford another project C conversion considering we just did this is Jack Roslovic. Especially so if we don't have or most dangerous shooter.

Nope. Jarvis or better, or no Laine. When I said "like", I meant "he's the bare minimum".

I mean I’m not Don Waddell and you aren’t jarmo I’m not gonna try to spell his last name. I’d understand the outcry if CBJ received this package but as a canes fan I wouldn’t give up anymore. We shall agree to disagree

Necas has a good set of skills but he never shoots the puck. Seems like he's lacking confidence and there's not a good fit for him in the Brind'Amour system.

Bear was dropped to 7th D in their depth chart and the prospects and picks are meh.

I just think the problem here is that CAR is not giving up anything substantial / asset who performed at their best in this trade. Not to say Necas isn't a substantial asset per se, but he's a guy that doesn't have much of a future in Carolina and his role is regressing.

I don't think we even need to do that. We both agree the Jackets wouldn't accept this and we both agree that the Canes aren't going to offer anything more than that.
