damn you're right, The best Mr. Irrelevant in NHL history? maybe. But anyways good deal, gonna help out the Wild a lot with their cap crunch.

He was, and he was playing on a line with the 1st pick of the same draft.

I might be off but I thought Russo reported that a deal with Middleton would most likely cost us at most $2M/yr at 2-3 years. $2.45M/yr seems high for a player that really only has these past 2 months to his name. Albeit, I don't know how he looked in San Jose. I guess I just thought (or hoped) we'd be able to get him at a cheaper rate.

Philipe Myers 2.0? I think he'll be better, especially defensively, but these contracts always carry a certain level of risk. I'd rather see an AAV of $2.25 or one less year of term.

To be fair, that's $200k of a difference in cap hit, or 0.24% of the salary cap. I know if you consistently sign every contract $200k over where you want to it adds up (everyone on your 23-man roster that would be $4.6M, or 5.58% of the cap), but 1 guy here or there it's not that big of a deal. That being said, it's 8.9% above what you expected, so if people see that previous players are getting an extra 8.9%, they might try to negotiate it into their deals. If everyone's getting the same percentage above expected then it adds up faster.

This is a huge raise and I don't know if he's earned it. He played much better with the Wild, but that was a very small sample size.

Russo has been saying for a while now that the number would start with a 2, not that it would be less than 2. He cited the Lauzon contract as a potential comp, but said it could be a bit higher. Keep in mind that Middleton's deal is buying more UFA years than it is RFA years which likely brought the price up a little bit.

He was awesome in Teal and was a great glue guy too.
I hope it works out for the Wild because I’d like to see Middleton earn 1 more deal. He’s worked his tail off and really never quit to make the NHL through his ups and downs and earned 2nd pair time with Karlsson.
