Two things most people here are overlooking:

1) those picks are closer to a 4th, 4th and 6th
2) bringing in Georgiev frees up at least 4mil+ in cap space (vs signing Kuemper at like 6-6.5mil) which can be used to retain a Kadri or Burakovsky (or similar type player)

So either they’re planning on trading Francouz, run 3 goalies, or Sakic has gone completely crazy.

Looks like the Avalanche believe Georgiev could rebound in form or Francouz can play a higher percentage of games.

Wouldn't call this a fantastic move right now but we'll see as the season progresses. Sakic clearly trusts in the quality of his team and would rather have a 1A/1B dynamic than an outright starter.

that late in the draft i dont think it really matters the difference in position to gauge the trade value. what i think people are forgetting is that the avs had early exits the 2 years before their the cup mainly because of bad goaltending in the playoffs. i dont think downgrading in that positikn is that good of an option for them. but maybeeee georgiev will prove us wrong.

Sakic got absolutely fleeced. There is no other way to describe this trade.

He got fleeced. No one is overlooking anything. It's okay. He usually does great work. But this time he did not.

Love this trade for both teams.

Colorado gets a 1B that wont hurt their cap situation , and NYR get picks and they didn't need Georgiev.

Great deal for COL.

I wrongly thought Georgiev would go for a lot more given the state of the goalie market.

There weren't going to be a lot of good options for Colorado given their cap situation.

For anyone who thinks this is bad work by Sakic, go look at the list of available UFA goalies and come back to this thread.

It's one of the toughest goalie markets in a long time.

Avs didn't win cause of Kuemper, but someone's going to overpay him and that wasn't going to be Sakic. Colorado going back to back cups now

People still betting against the Avs, the year of our Lord 2022. Have you not yet learned their numbers are better than yours? Also, the likelihood of any of these picks to turn into anything useful is incredibly low.

this is officially the Avalanche's "we're sorry for ever trading you away Chris Drury please accept our apologies".

There had better be an extension already worked out for Georgiev around $2 million AAV for at least 4 years in place.

What I do like about this setup is the age progression:
Francouz 32 years old - 2 years under contract
Georgiev 26 years old - ? years under contract
Annunen 22 years old - 1 year remaining under ELC then RFA.

Francouz-Georgiev tandem for the next 2 years then Georgiev-Annunen tandem after that?

If someone gets hot and takes the crease then great.

In any situation we have a cheap (AAV) goaltender setup.

From this point on, I think we need to draft/develop our goalies and stop spending that much draft capital unless it is a trade deadline deal due to LTIR issue.

Kuemper isn't staying. Annunen isn't ready. Joe just isn't willing to break the bank on a goalie (ie Florida).

Agreed. I think the most "valuable" goalies were Kuemper if his contract was $5 million or less; Georgiev (if his extension is around $2-2.5) or Comrie (under $2 mil).

Now Toronto, Edmonton, Washington, and New Jersey can bid on which of the "big 4" they want; while we have a fighting chance to re-sign Nazem Kadri.

Aside from Vasy and Shesterkin which goalie situation isn't risky?

Fine, risky is a bad word, but any team that doesn't run with two 2Gs is at better position.

This goalie tandem ranks like 25-30th best in the league imo.

Option 3 it is. A Georgiev Frankie tandem is the kind of tandem rebuilding teams have, not contenders.

I assume the Aves have already worked out a deal, but they gave up way too much for the signing rights to a player.
