I'm stunned. I don't know how Pierre Dorion managed to get a 25 year old 40 goal scorer and gave up no prospects or young roster players. Holy crap what a game changer

What is Chicago doing? They just traded a 1st line winger not even in his prime yet for underwhelming assets... Maybe this comes back to haunt me, but yikes

They got a bigger return for Hagel. If this was the deal, they could've said no and dealt him 50% at the TDL for more. FML. Didn't even get a prospect back...

Ottawa immediately wins since they didn’t have to give up a pick in next year’s more talented draft class.

i guess a 9m QO actually was a factor... great player but yet capfriendly managed to glorify his trade value .. #2oa Holtz and Bahl...

Straight up awful from Chicago. I'd fire Davidson right now. Not even close to good enough value. Sens fleeced

The real winner here is Bedard, because he isn’t heading to Arizona no more.

Chicago’s a worse punishment tbh

Only way this trade makes any sense for CHI is if DeBrincat was demanding max contract (max $ and term) on his extension. They didn't even get a young player, now they can't mess up drafting in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, and they better end up with Bedard.

DeBrincat's QO next year is 9m and if he accepts he would be heading to FA sooner rather than later.

I did not expect this at all, especially when the Senators were trying to dump Murray's cash at a high cost. Debrincat is one of the most expensive and difficult to extend players who was available. Unless there is an agreement in place, he's basically on a 2x9M contract.

I think I've probably spent the last month telling people on here that there was no way Debrincat to Ottawa was in any way realistic.

Did Dorion get an angry call from Brady Tkachuk or something?

Now the fascinating part is seeing what other moves happen in relation to Murray, Zaitsev, etc. That will show the true cost of this acquisition. If the Senators can add Debrincat without dumping cash, that's a great sign going forward in relation to the team's spending. It's very confusing though when they were hours removed from trying to pay a high price to dump Murray.

After months of ACGMS where Debrincat wielded a lottery pick, an A prospect and a young roster player, this is what Chicago gets in return. God I love hockey

Ottawa should be able to easily pay the QO, if QO was a factor it actually makes sense for a team closer to the ceiling.

Next is Dach. Then Kane.

Then CHI whiffs on 1OA and doesn't get Bedard.

Chicago is entering a rebuild. There is a good chance Debrincat was gone in 2 seasons. He has a 9M qualifying offer. He could walk himself to free agency by signing his QO in 2023.

Within that context, this is a fantastic return. 7th overall in this draft is not great, but it's a better piece than most teams get when they are selling a star. Teams rarely hit homeruns like Columbus did with Jones.

idk i don't think this is as bad of a trade as everyone's saying, getting 7OA in a deep draft for debrincat plus additional futures was honestly the most reasonable asking price.

sure as hell a lot less lopsided than 2OA + holtz smh
