If you throw in a first Vancouver might consider.

Marcus Foligno isn't it, gross overpay. I know they gave a first for his brother, but that was the price to acquire him as a rental.

It's not like we'd trade him for that anyway. It would take a gross overpay for us to consider it. And this ain’t it.

Lol I'm so glad you responded, I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Alex Kerfoot is very good and extremely versatile, but Foligno is better defensively and brings an edge to his game.

Should also consider that the Wild are short on cap space, Kerfoot being off the books next summer creates good flexibility.

Yeah, that's the same with his brother, then it was a calculated risk that didn't work. Here, it's just trading a higher producer for someone who is better defensively so it's a trade off. There's other options in fa that are likely better than the both. So, giving up the assets for the Leafs wouldn't make sense, and taking a higher hit (even for one year) doesn't make sense for the wild since they would have to replace what Foligno brings with a second player perhaps but also replace Kerfoot for the next two dead cap years, instead of replacing Foligno (potentially) in the last.

Kerfoot led the Leafs in secondary assists, and Marcus is much better than his brother was when the Leafs acquired him. I love Kerfoot and would be upset if he left but Foligno brings more value to a team, no question. Also low 1st round draft picks are overrated anyway.

There are bound to be cheaper options (in terms of cap and assets required to acquire) on the trade market+fa possible

Not sure why Vancouver would do the Holl deal.

Except you are forgetting Kerfoot is more expensive. what foligno is to wild are why our gm wouldn't trade him and loves him so much

I don't think Schenn is better then any guy you could normally get in FA and why would you trade for him then use him as a 7th d?

I don't necessarily disagree with your first point. However Schenn is a hard nosed, low risk, low maintenance type of player, which works better as a 7D because of his versatility and consistency. I have him at 7D because I think my top 6 deserve their spots over him.

Finally, Holl is probably the better player in the deal but the Leafs give up a pick swap because it saves them 1 mill.

Yeah I understand why Minny wouldn't want to trade him, its the same reason I want him.
