my ideal goalies going into next season

Created by: CapFriendlysFinest
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 8, 2022
Published: Jul. 8, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
A strong battle between Blackwood and Comire in net. Both have good careers with decent success. Both can come cheap for this year.

I like it more than running a Husso at 4x4 and having Woll or Kallgren as the backups. Give them another year in the minors before you decide who will be your backup.

Ideally, I don't think we can afford Kuemper or Campbell either, both will likely demand 5-6 million on the UFA market.

Thoughts?

Campbell is a UFA in a few days. His value is not = Blackwood. More like a 5th or 6th round pick.

It's not even that. The UFA rights have no value. The Leafs fans have latched on to senile old Larry Brooks' column.

Then what would it take for a Blackwood deal? It seems the Devils are ready to move on and run a new 1A goalie and Bernier when hes healthy

those goalies have had good careers and success? what? Comrie has 28 NHL games played at 27 years old and only the most recent strip of 19 games as a back up was any good. Blackwood isnt much better, he's been crap for 2 straight years and before that he was simply 'ok'

Those two goalies are not winning you a cup, maybe a wild card spot. The Leafs will have either Campbell, Keumper, or Husso as their number 1 goalie. It is to important of a position, they can trade Kerfoot or Nylander for cheaper players or prospects.

Having a 907 Save percentage behind an awful new jersey defense for the past four years is impressive. Same with Comrie who was behind an even worse defense and rocked a 920 last year.

I'm not saying either are elite but their is large upside to both who played in front of much worse teams than the leafs. Both come cheaper than any goalie we would sign on the open market too.

According to who?... Brooks? Bernier seems to be as good as done.

except that good goalies put up good numbers on bad teams. Blackwood has just been bad, he is a massive reason why jersey has been bad. And you said they had good careers and decent success, neither of those things are true

Blackwood has been bad for 2 of his 4 career seasons. His value is not very high either.

Both could turn into something good if they get the right situation though. Comrie out playing Halleybuck is impressive without question

Devils need goaltending just as much as Toronto, they aren't trading their current best option for nothing.

Blackwood didn't play a healthy game last season, no reason to kick him to the curb with how minimal the options are.

Edit: Never mind lol. I expect a Blackwood-Vanecek-Daws setup next season.

If he fails again in your system (New Jersey isn't going to be great quite yet) he will have negative value. Getting something, even something small, may be your best return possible

His contract is up at the end of next season. A player without a contract will have negative value?... What?

Or just no value at all. Right now I doubt he has much value. More than half his career has been pretty bad. Injuries or no.

Der-Arguchintsev has no value at all. Half a dozen Comets deserve a roster spot over him.

So I'm confused here... You want Blackwood because "he could turn into something good", but also think he's trash and the Devils should trade him. You can't argue both sides.

That's the sort extreme bull**** that makes the internet so dumb. I think Blackwood hasn't done well for half his career. And very well could be a guy who flames out. That's the risk, what is he and what will he be? It's hard to predict but right now he's looked like a below average backup for the past 2 seasons. So he's a high risk acquisition. Could he bounce back? Absolutely. However, I wouldn't pay big assets to see.

In no way does that mean I think he's trash and worthless, I think it's high risk. If you can't understand that, then you are just one of the many who just come here looking to fight.

that isnt impressive at all, like i said, good goalies have good numbers behind bad teams. He had bad numbers all around. And Comrie did have a good season, the issue is that he literally has 19 games total in his late 20s where he has shown he might be a starter. Literally any goalie in the NHL can put up a 920 over 19 games.

There's literally no risk for the Devils though... Worst case scenario, they waive him and bring up Daws. A year of 1.5m in dead cap does absolutely no harm to the Devils.

If Blackwood isn't trash and worthless, why would they accept an AHLer who will never touch the Devils roster for him?...

Whatever, I'm not interested in arguing, just pointing out how flip-floppy you are. Good luck on your guy's goalie hunt. I expect y'all will bring back Campbell with how things are unwinding.

I am not defending this trade. But from what Devils fans have been saying, they expect a pretty big haul for Blackwood. One guy wanted to trade him for Sandin. That's just ridiculous
