Where to go from here

Description
Hartman had a good year but I think he regresses next season and we should have tried to upgrade down the middle. Would have loved Dach but I don't think we could have beat 13 and 66 OA for him. I still would love Miller but I don't see us giving up our 1st next year which I think is what it would take (in addition to other pieces) now that the first round this year is over.

I expect this team to be a Wild card team, but probably not one that makes it past the 1st-2nd round. If we really struggle, we should sell Dumba, Talbot, and Gaudreau at the deadline.

How do you like the Wild’s picks so far? A center would have been nice, but I have been arguing for awhile now that the Wild’s pool of wingers is poor and I love both these picks!

I’d like to see a C and a RHD taken in the 2nd.

Agreed. I love the picks. I expected a C with one of them but happy we went high upside at 24. Hoping for a C today.

Definitely agree on preferring a center, I was really hoping Nazar would fall. I like Ostlund a bit too, but he went before our pick as well. Completely agree on wanting a center and RHD in the 2nd round.

I didn't know much about Ohgren before the draft, but reading about him it seems like a decent pick. Scott Wheeler is really high on him, had him ranked 14th in his rankings. Pronman isn't quite as high on him and ranked him at 28th. Seems like he's a goal scorer which we definitely need and plays with good pace and compete. I'm getting flashbacks to 2019 when we took Boldy for Ohgren since I didn't know a ton about Boldy then and they seem like sort of similar prospects.

That said, I LOVE the Yurov pick. Was really hoping we'd grab one of the Russians. I preferred Miroshnichenko, but Yurov looks like a really talented player and I think he could be one of the best prospects to come out of this class when we look back in 5-10 years. It will probably take several years to get him over here, but having Kaprizov on our roster doesn't hurt that.

Yurov could end up as the steal of the draft!

Does anyone feel like Minnesota's wild history makes our GM's and scouts prone not to care about drafting C's. Don't understand why they selected an LW in the 1st round

I can already envision these lines: Ohgren/Rossi/Boldy, Kaprizov/Khusnutdinov/Yurov

There were no Cs at those picks worth taking. Ohgren adds a shot we don’t have in the pool and has 50-60 pt upside. Yurov is a top 10 pick on talent. And for everybody whining about size, there you go.

I would not be surprised if Talbot moves today. Kulikov is probably a guy that moves after the UFA dust settles. But yeah. This looks right.

I know it breaks up the Russian line thought. But I've not particularly cared for novelties like that in my hockey.

But I'd rather have Rossi centering Kaprizov and Boldy and a Ohgren-Khusnutdinov-Yurov line instead.

I prefer it for several reasons.

1) This gives Kaprizov the best center possible.

2) Each line will have a power forward, a defensive minded center who can score and distribute the puck, and a highly skilled Russian winger.

3) Yurov's game will likely be a better fit for Khusnutdinov given they're both players who play with a ton of pace and speed. And while Ohgren might be a step behind those two he still has some speed to his game too.

IF all these kids pan out, the Wild will have by far the most talented and versatile group of forwards in franchise history! Making line combos will be a very enjoyable chore!

I feel like Beckman and Ohgren are very similar players. Both have legit shots but Beckman might be the better skater and Ohgren has the better 2-way game (at 18 anyway). Could see either guy next to JEEk or Rossi.

I think it's been overblown a fair bit on the whole Talbot thing. That feels more like Talbot's agent being upset about Fleury's re-signing then Talbot will be about it himself.

I don't think Talbot moves.

But who knows what'll happen today.

If he does, I hope it's to Edmonton for the rights to Puljujärvi with other stuff added in by both sides to even stuff out.

Vanacek just went to NJD. Caps want a “vet presence”. Talbot could bring back a 2nd at this point and that’s too much to pass up IMO.

From what I gather, he does. Beckman is an offensive weapon and probably won’t be more than that (not complaining). But Ohgren was used in scoring roles in J20 and as a 2-way winger in the SHL. He has the smarts to play how coach wants him to play.

We should have a lot better idea of his upside when he’s put into a bigger role in the Allsvenskan.

The more I read about Ohgren, the more I like him! He’s also a workout fanatic so he will fit right in with Ek, Rossi, et all.

Cam Talbot's agent George Bazos met with Wild GM Bill Guerin during the third round here.
``We both stated our positions,'' Bazos said via text message. ``Billy has a lot to think about.''

Bazos seems like an ass. A true tandem is better for BOTH goalies going forward which can only help his client.

Guerin has made his desire for wanting BOTH goaltenders for that very reason very public, but Guerin has *a lot to think about*?

Jesus Christos...
