Have no idea how this is going to age, but right now this is fair value for a great winger.

Correction I heard he got 6 mil per year. This will age poorly almost certainly

Until last season I thought he was overrated, but he is their most valuable forward, so it makes sense to pay him accordingly and hang onto him. Forsberg at $8.5M AAV looks better than Duchene and Johansen at $8M each. The term is maybe one more year than I would have liked for his age, but it’s not ridiculous, and it’s probably why he took less AAV than he likely would have got as a UFA, where I saw him as a consolation prize for a team with a failed Gaudreau bid.

Awesome deal for Nashville in my opinion!

I don't think so 8.5m over 8 years. Nashville has 9 mil left to sign about 10 players

They currently have 19 on the roster, so no they don't have to sign 10 players.

A few RFAs, but nothing serious.

Filip is one of the 5-10 best wingers in the league. This is a no-brianer for Nashville. Their decision-making has a franchise have been worse as of late but this is of course the correct move.

BOS fans should be ecstatic about this signing. Sweeney can use this as a comparable for Pasta

Sweeney can use this as a comparable all he wants. But it will result in Pasta getting his sauce from another franchise

The last couple of years might be rough, but that's the price you pay.

No, no, no. That's the price SOMEONE ELSE has to pay. He'll be moved to a rebuilding team where he can be a mentor to younger players.

Probably a win win.
I'm sure this contract won't look great 6-7 years from now, but retaining a player like Forsberg right now is a good move

Sorta.. Pasta has a much better track record.

9-10mill still seems realistic for Pasta

He's a 65 point a year player....except for last season. I dunno, 8.5m X 7 may be going rate, but the reality is he likely is more than that 65 point per throughout his contract, probably less.

Remember when he was traded for Martin Erat and Michael Latta? Seems like ages ago.

I think this deal seems pretty solid all around. I mean he will be signed until he's 36, so those last couple of years likely aren't ideal, but he probably outperforms this cap hit by enough in the early going that it's a worthwhile risk. Also, if the rumors of the cap going up rapidly once the escrow debt is fully paid are true, the amount of damage later in the deal could be heavily offset. Throw in that last two years including some ability to move him, and the fact he is making less than his cap hit by then, and you get enough flexibility to potentially eliminate those risks down the road.

I think Forsberg's contract is going to be one of the best ones signed this offseason.
