remember EK is only signed until the end of next season. No way Cheap Eugene will pay 10 million a year.

Melnyk might be cheap but he's not stupid. Not signing Karlsson because his contract will be expensive would result in a loss of money much much greater than Karlsson's salary. That's a drop in ticket sales, merchandise etc. Karlsson is Ottawa's most profitable player.
