Seems like Sakic is very high on Georgiev, or he himself is just very, very high.

For a goalie going into his prime who only needs to have a GAA under 3 I think its a decent contract. Personally, I would have liked this AAV better if it was a two year deal. Francouz I think will help him get his confidence back too, he doesn't have to (literally) fight anyone to get more playing time, if hes hot he plays. By the time this contract is up Justus Annunen will be ready for NHL time as well. Avs have an above average goaltending foundation for the foreseeable future if Georgiev can give them what he showed when he was able to put a string of starts together.

Normally, a bad trade is followed up by a bad signing.

All done by a single team.

Georgiev is a case in point.

Bad contract in terms of past production but could end up being a good low cost tandem for Avs. No issues trading the contract either if it doesn't work out.

Really interesting that a bunch of people voted “No” so far. He & contract should be solid if the defense continues to do what it does.

Georgiev didn't have the best season, but he's just above expectation for his career. I think this is a calculated bet with low downside from Colorado. If he doesn't do well, some one will probably take him for free if nothign else, and if he does well colorado wins, again.

Avs have one one of the best D cores in the league, and they have one of the best goalie coaches in the league in Jussi Parkkila.

Remember when all the talking heads claimed that Jonas Johansson was the worst goalie they ever saw when the avs traded for him as a 3rd string bc of injuries, but somehow he goes 5-1-1 and has a 0.913sv% and 2.06gaa?

I think Sakic, his pro scouting staff, analytics department, and coaches should get the benefit of the doubt they know what they are doing. Ill trust their analysis of Georgiev and what he can do under the avs umbrella

I could see this working out as Georgiev obviously has some upside, especially playing in front of the Avs, but you gotta wonder why they wouldn't just spring the extra 1.5-2m for Kuemper...
I dunno.. Its a little odd

bc he the rumours was he was looking for a deal similar to Grubauers of 6x6 and some where saying he wanted 6.75m aav. thats more than 1.5-2m extra, especially shelling out high aav and term to a 32 year old goalie. Not a great idea

Ah yes, the old 1B, 1C tandem. Good thing the Avs score like Stiffler at an underage highschool party.

Trading for a player without a contract always gives him leverage. Good for him.

COL won the cup with Kuemper. They would had won with Francouz too. Georgiev might be overpaid, but the team saves cap money at the end of the day.

Both sides W

I know Sakic has struck gold on just about every move but there’s no way this works out. Like absolutely no way. I will delete my account and send Sakic a handwritten apology if Georgiev isn’t either a backup or a complete liability next year. The only reason I don’t think they’ve just taken a massive step back is because I think Francouz is good enough.

georgiev is making more money than francouz. so hopefully, for sakic's sake, he pans out. this deal currently looks very bad but hopefully he pulls it together and makes this deal worth it

This contract looks way better if the cap savings allows us to either keep or replace with comparable impact:

Either Josh Manson + middle 6 forward (Marchment or another $3-4 million type).

Or Kadri + "hungry" veteran physical shutdown RHD (OGWAC) that can fill Manson's shoes but on a cheap deal (Justin Braun, Erik Gudbradson, etc)
