Reports say he is not being qualified.

  1. 2024 3rd round pick (DAL)
DAL
  1. Holl, Justin
Additional Details:
For a while, I have maintained I don't see Nill driving deep into the UFA market to round out his blueline for 2022-23; although the group of RD available is pretty good. See him waiting this out for for the cap to go up for starters, and with an aging group at forward will be cautious.

Holl is a very dependable top 4 D, who I think would pair very nicely with Suter. The expiring deal means the Stars don't have a long term commitment, but could see an extention made as Holl's contract demands should remain quite reasonable.

TOR
  1. Ruzicka, Adam [RFA Rights]
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
I am sure there are trolls out there that will say Kerfoot isn't worth this, but in Dvorak can net a 1st and second, I think this is more than reasonable for Kerfoot with retained salary. A middle six player (possibly) and a 2nd? Yeah.... fair.
CGY
  1. Kerfoot, Alexander
Additional Details:
**Kerfoot is funneled through Buffalo, who retains 50% of cap hit, because they need to male basement**

Calgary is in win now mode, and in this deal, working on the scenario they loose one of Gaudreau or Magnipane, which puts the Flames in the market for an affordable 2nd line LW. Kerfoot fits that bill..... especially at $1.75 million. Defensively responsible, so will fit into Sutter's systems well - or should.

BUF
  1. 2024 3rd round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
Pick moved for retaining $1.75 million on Kerfoot. Buffalo need to male basement, and picking up an asset for dead cap space.for one season should 100% be in their wheel house.

Sandin isn't signing for $1m x 2.

Hard to ask for Liligren money when the season you just had doesn't support it

Oh, I think Engvall is very underrated actually. His transitional game is better than people think.

As for Strome, you need to think about the line construct. He was almost a PPG playing between Debrincat and Kane. Playing between JT and Nylander (players of similar skill) I can see similar production.

Further, Kerfoot sees a pay raise after this season - albeit nominal. Maybe in the nieghbourhood of $4.5 million per of he repeats last season (I think he does), meaning the Strome addition saves a few bucks.

Bunting after this season is gone as well (enter Roberston and/or Knies), so the long term cap situation may look a little better.

I guess all I'm trying to say, and I'm not disagreeing with your logic, is that contending teams moving players for picks to other contenders, to then turn around and sign other players is pretttttttty rare.

That's fair.

But this is a case if long term cap management for the Leafs, and for the Flames (unless something happens like Monahan goes LTIR for the season or they move the whole contract by some act of God), they are loosing a top 6 LW. Replacing that on the cheap via the UFA market isn't easy, and it "prettttttty rare".
