As a Stars fan, I would love ALL of this if it were possible. I don't think the current setup gets you Burns though. Now that Strome us an UFA, you can keep that 2023 5th. Add that 2023 4th you got for Faksa plus someone like Dellandrea and I think it's much closer for SJS to say yes (Damiani + Dellandrea +2023 4th + 2023 5th).

Strome is still an RFA until Thursday. Chicago floated his UFA status as chum in water for anyone to make a deal for his signing rights. Its basically advertising that anything of value buys you a week of negotiating rights. I think its worth having the ability to match to give up a 5th.

As for Burns, I think his market is much smaller than people think. For one, even with some cap retention, he's not a cheap player. He also has some input on where he is willing to go, so he is making the market for himself. You're doing SJ a favor taking him off the books and freeing up that space. A prospect and mid round pick I imagine will do the trick.

He has a NTC and is 37 years old. The market there is incredibly small and he has to sign off on wherever he goes. I can't imagine it will be anything beyond a prospect and mid round pick considering the cap relief SJ is getting. The pick is kind of inconsequential. Make it a 2nd. I don't care. I think there's probably strong interest from only a handful of teams.

32 Thoughts said there’s been quite a bit of interest in Burns. If he gets moved it will be for good value and likely boosted value from other teams. $6 mil in total retention for a 50 point player is going to cost more than a fringe nhler and a 4th

Hadn't seen that report. The NTC from Burns though is a big kicker in this. I bumped it up to a 2nd, but really can't see it would be beyond that considering the leverage he has in the trade and the Sharks are making this deal for cap relief. Usually cap relief trades don't get much back in return.

Sure it a cap relief trade but it isn’t a low level player going the other way. He’s still a number 2-3 defenseman on most teams in the league. He does hold a bit of leverage, yes. After his exit interview it seems like he want to compete for a cup. I would be interested to see if we would waive for a contender
